I bought an E74 Xbox and reflowed the (H)ANA chip with a heat gun. I also did the x clamp fix first. After that it worked but after a few mins I kept getting two red lights. I tried a few more times and then suddenly it didn't turn on. I couldn't find any noticeable shorts like pins out if place except I found a small metal spring in the first expansion slot on the front. I removed it; still no luck. I tried different RF boards too and PSUs, all of which stay straight (no flashing) orange. Any ideas?
Two red lights are usually a sign of the CPU overheating. Did the fans spin up faster before you got the two red lights?
Something else to consider: I recently flashed an older non HDMI unit that I got on eBay a long time ago. It had a lite-on drive, so I knew it had been spoofed from either a samsung or a hitachi. I went ahead and flashed it to stock and tried to update via LIVE (I know, dumb). I got TWO RED LIGHTS while it was trying to apply the update. After that I tried putting a samsung drive in to see if it would fix the problem. It stopped the two red lights from flashing, but gave me a long error code instead. I looked up the code, and most people's threads started off with, "Is my 360 fixable, or it's bricked, etc..". It can't play games or movies because it doesn't even make it to the dashboard. Long story short, don't try to update with a spoofed drive. Lesson learned!
you should have reflowed the gpu and the ram chips closest to the gpu as well, that being said the 2 red lights most likely was caused by having the screws to tight on the xclamp replacement, most likely you have shorted out the mosfets, that is why it is no longer coming on, or you have the screws so tight that you are shorting out one of the small capacitors under the heatsink, or at very worse you tightened it so much you broke some of the pads underneath the chip.
I think I know what the problem is. When I shake the board I hear a rattling noise which I think is coming from the front left expansion port where I moved that small metal spring from. Ideas?

Try to secure that expansion port, or desolder it completely and/or replace it. Also make sure that your motherboard is clean from top to bottom...alcohol and a soft bristle toothbrush with a delicate touch works very well.
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

That metal piece just holds the dvd drive in more secure. It's really worthless and doesn't affect how the console runs. 2 red lights is overheat. Reflow with Flux.
