I expect they will make an official announcement in 2 years with 2 MORE years of development. Don't hold your breath, M$ (even Sony) said they see the current gen games lasting another several years (several usually mean more than 3). Plus you have to take into account the added features they are working on for the next 2 years:
360: Natal
PS3: 3D and that wand controller.
Can you imagine the crap storm 3rd party co. will give them if after releasing these peripherals then all of a sudden "oh btw, were making a new system so all the games your currently developing for this peripheral will be old gen in the next year or so"... they will get so much flake from it.
Besides, all the current patches that keep coming out gives added features. I am in no rush to spend close to a grand on a new system. Not to mention that 3rd party companies are FINALLY getting the hand of the system and are coming out with BETTER LOOKING GAMES!...even the crappy games look great. Did you see the VGA trailers?! Halo Reach trailer was IN-GAME ENGINE!
So...whats the rush????????????????????????

A MS console with SOny's Blu ray tech...I highly doubt it.
PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

Why? You can buy a Windows PC with a BR drive. And a Sony Viao with Windows. MS didn't develop HD-DVD... they only supported it at the time.
So now that there is one standard format, it would business suicide for MS to turn it's back on BR.

Windows is an OS not a computer. And Vaio is a computer not an OS. Thats why. Any computer can run an OS. Just like an OS can be ran on any computer (with the right specs)
If MS is going to have Blu ray in their next console then Sony is going to make some money off it. Its Sony lol they copy right every tech they come up with.

Yea I know but Sony has the majority shares (half I think) so they will still get royalties.

And every other company in the world copyrights their tech. So I don't understand your logic.
I think you're missing the whole point. And that is MS and Sony already have products working together. So why would Sony make an exception this time? MS would profit from using BR technology. And Sony would profit from licensing their tech to MS. Both companies have boards of directors and stock holders to answer to. That's why it would be completely stupid for Sony to not license their tech to MS. Sony would be the loser.

Yea Sony would license it off to make money but MS probably wont accept. I dont think they would want to ruin their reputation. Just like how they never jumped on the motion control band wagon like Sony did. And how they chose the HD DVD side of the new format war instead of blu ray. MS is a patent whore themselves. They paid extra for netflix to be exclusive to the 360 dash. Dont forget in game music capabilities. They patent that also.
If MS wanted blu ray on a console it would have happened already. Im thinking they might go totally digital for their next console. It would also help with the piracy issue. They werent banning a crap load of consoles for no reason.
And this is all my oppinion by the way Im not saying its fact so dont get bent.

It will almost certainly have a Bluray drive, the storage will become necessary at that point.
The only big feature I want though is the ability to stream mkv files without going through a 12 step program to get them working.

Exactly. They are gonna need something bigger than DVDs, and BluRay will be the only mainstream media on the market much bigger than DVD.

sd cards are big enough and hold video files so why not them since they are RAM anyways, its a lot larger n64 cartridge

i believe atm sd cards can hold 8gb, but i know flash drives are up to 32gb's so sd cards won't be far behind, however i don't see sd cards being a viable choice, seems it'd be much easier than having a physical disk to extract data, etc, but idk i'm sure ther'll come up with something
