Xbox connected to internet but not to live

Im on break from college at home and my mom just got this router. I have tried everything imaginable to get my xbox to work with this router. My xbox is connected by ethernet to my laptop which has a bridge that connects to the router using my laptops wireless adapter. This usually works on all other routers ive tried it with. On the xbox it connects to the network and to the internet but not xbox live.

First I went in made sure UPnP was enabled, it was.
I then went in to manually enter the ports. I put in all of the correct ports for Xbox Live. I tested the ports with a port checker the ports were closed when they were set for my xbox's static ip address but they were open when I tried my computers ip address. HUH?? Im confused
I then tried putting my xbox in dmz and that didnt even work.

So any suggestions would be appreciated I have run out of ideas.

what's your router and is it running the latest firmware? There's usually new firmware out if you've just bought it and the product has been out a while. New firmware can fix the issue if it's a router issue.

your router has to revisions and I need you to work out which one so you can flash it to the latest firmware. then the link is here

It is the first revision and its N wireless.

I can go onto the router address 192.168.0.1 to upgrade the firmware I just dont know which one will make my xbox live work. Ive been looking around and from what I can tell everyone is saying to stay at 1.21 rather than going into 1.31 and above but I noticed on dlinks website that the 1.32NA firmware fixed UPnP and port forwarding. I did a few google searches and the vast majority say that connection drops frequently with 1.32NA firmware and that you cant downgrade from above 1.31. Id rather not screw up my Moms internet just so I can connect to Xbox live for a few weeks so Im kinda stuck on what I should do.

sorry for taking a while to get back to you. Easiest method now is just to buy a really cheap used router so while your there you can use it, flash it and if you break it, it's okay, I'd recommend NETGEAR there routers seems to work very well and I haven't had a dropped connection for a good 6 months since I switched to them
