I know it's been talked about a lot on other forums but I wanted to rehash the subject of the dreaded and stubborn error 0102. I have been able to repair several dozens of consoles over the last year using various methods EXCEPT a few consoles with error 0102 (also fixed a couple though not sure exactly what did the trick).
Has anyone been able to successfully conquer this particular error on a regular basis and have a plan of attack or solution, or at least understand what the main areas to concentrate on would be?
The last console I was dealing with threw a few other errors (0022, 0021, etc.) before going into 0102. It also went to the e71 screen occasionally but more often hung at the 360 intro screen. I suspected one of the ram chips might have been the problem as it was getting a bit hotter than the rest. The voltage regulators all seemed to be working correctly when I measured them with a multimeter.
I have a few of these consoles lying around and would rather solve the riddle of 0102 than part ways with them and be defeated! I'm sure some of you may understand where I'm coming from.
Haven't tried a bga rework station yet or the "oven fix," as the latter seems like it would really take a toll on the components. Have tried heatgun method (carefully following guidelines and covering sensitive areas) and a few others to fix about 45-50 consoles.
Out of all of those consoles, RROD has not returned which I am proud of, save for 2 stubborn consoles with 0102 (must be component failures) and one console that someone hacked across some small traces around the ram chip (pretty much makes this a parts board) so what does that make it....over 94% success rate? Not too shabby...would like to raise that though.
If anyone can contribute solutions to this error I would love to try them out! Thanks!
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."
