I have had my xbox 360 for almost a year now and i bought it new, and modded it immediately. I just bought a TV and after days and days of fault tracing i have narrowed my troubles down to the xbox itself.

I have my xbox hooked directly to the TV with and HDMI cable.

what happens is when i play COD4 (from HD or disc) every 35 mins (almost on the dot) the audio of the charaters voice, their guns, and enemy's voices become distorted and fuzzy. it lasts for about 15 seconds usually, and goes away when i shut off the TV and plug it back in. I am aware of the issue of no sound through HDMI and i think i have a different issue on my hands. I also know that there is a new update coming on the 11th and i hope it was just a bug that will be fixed. this started about 2 weeks ago when i got my new TV and i took it back to get it exchanged for the same thing (toshiba regza 40xv645u) but it made no change!

This only occurs DURRING gameplay that ive noticed and it does not occur if i watch an HD movie using the same cable (ive also tried 3 differnt cables but no luck) and same HDMI port. i have also deleted the game from my HDD and still nothing different. Also I have tried another xbox on my TV and no sound issues after an hour of play. I will try my AV cables that came with my box but i was wondering if anyone had any idea's? I have tried another HDD in my box and recoverd my gamertag so that i could play online (the game gets really boring playing the same levels trying to diag a prob that happens every 35 mins) but it made the noise with the different HDD in my console.

the xbox is set to YCbCr601 but also it occurs under AUTO and is on 1080p with ref level expanded, the sound is set to Digital Stereo and doesnt seem to change on 5.1. (i think it was set to 5.1)

PLEAE HELP! am i missing something here?

After a few more hours of diagnosis I have narrowed down the issue. Every 35 minutes call of duty 4 has issues with the charaters voice as i described above. I tried the component cables and it works just fine. I thought this might mean the end of my HD gaming (i think HDMI liiks better on my TV). I decided to play far cry 2 to confirm this and what do you know!? the game worked fine without any funny sounds. I guess its just COD4 and that is where the issue is at. ill try to reset cache and see if that was the issue. I dont know why but it happens with 2 different discs even when it was loaded onto the HDD with the real disc. it did have a scratch on it but before i loaded the game on the disc the problem occurred.

just thought i would update my findings.

Yeah, I actually had this issue awhile back, but I would lose all sound until I reset my 360. I took a break from it for awhile, and I never experienced it again. So, I don't know if this relates to your issue at all, but I figured I might as well let you know.
