40Gb PS3 Takes Disc but Does not Read

I have a old 40gb ps3 that doesn't read a disc but does take the disc.

I have a spare ps3 for parts
I could fix it myself and I don't need to call playstation to fix it.

I just need to know what I need to replace inside the ps3?
It does have the latest update

I have the same problem and from reading and calling around I'm hearing it's the lens

well i opened it up and put in a clear disc to see if the laser goes through all of it's cycles to read the disc and it did. The I put in a blu ray and saw it has the right laser light on for the blu ray. I just didn't know if it could be a wire i needed to replace
