Hi, ive got a video file of District 9 and its a big size file. It says its got 5.1 surround but I cant seem to get the surround to work on my ps3 for this. DVD's/Blurays/Games all work fine in 5.1 for me as I have an optical cable running from the ps3 to setup.
It is in 5.1 as when the movie is playing and I press select, in the top right it says "AAC 5.1 ch. 48hkz". But, when I have AAC enabled in the sound settings theres no sound from the sound system so I have to disable it. But I can hear sound with AAC 2ch. fine.
Its an MP4 file btw.
Any help?

In the sound settings, try setting it to only use dolby digital (uncheck all of the others that it will let you uncheck).

Killerbug, that didnt work.
Sudds, I downloaded the film and transfered it to the ps3s hard drive and play them off that. I didnt burn the video file to a dvd using nero if thats what you mean by encode with nero. My pioneer setup is able to play DTS and nearly everything ive thrown at it, this is the first problem ive had. Is there anyway I can find out if it plays AAC 5.1?

You can go to the pioneer website and download the manual. If it has support, I'm sure pioneer would mention it.
When he said "encode" he meant part of the process of making what you downloaded.
If all else fails, you could always split the MP4, convert the audio to Dolby, and then remux.

I checked the manual and it doesnt mention anything about AAC 5.1 so im guessing it must not be compatabile with it. What program, free preferably, do you recommend that I use to split the mp4 and convert the audio to Dolby? Will the sound and picture quality stay the same? Is it a hard thing to do?
thanks for the help

I'm afraid I have no experience with MP4...it is far too constrictive for me. If I had to play with such a file, I would probably use YAMB to demux/remux, and I would probably use VLC to convert the audio stream. Come to think of it, you might even be able to simply use VLC to convert the file all at once.

Use TSmuxer to demux the streams and if you have nero installed it will convert the 5.1 aac to 5.1 ac3, then remux with Tsmuxer. ;-)

I downloaded that but still have problems. On the program media info, it says the audio on District 9 is AAC and has 6 channels, but when I load the video file into tsmuxer, it says in track info: 2 channels. Why is that?
Also, im not sure what im to do in tsmuxer, anyone got a simple guide to follow ?? :S

Have you tried VLC? Just go to Media>Convert/Save...the rest should explain itself.
