Before the banter of dumb remarks about buying on craigslist, i know dumb on my part ><.
But my problem is after replacing the power supply for a system that was beyond warranty and sony, the system turns on and comes to the xmb screen will stay there for 5-10 mins then start showing signs of purple and pink lines across the screen and start getting hotter then normal. After the 10 minutes the system blinks purple and pink blocks then stops responding. Any ideas/suggestions?
Open it up and remove the mainboard. Carefully remove the cap from the top of the GPU, and clean up underneath; even the 4 squares on the corner, also clean up the bottom of the cover. Get some arctic silver 5 and some arctic adhesive. Find something that weighs a couple pounds that you can put on top of the GPU cap while it is in place. Carefully apply a thin layer of arctic silver 5 to the center of the GPU, and apply arctic adhesive to the 4 corners. Place the cap on, press it to make sure it is tight, then put the weight on top of it and leave it for about 24 hours (they say it takes only a couple hours; but it really takes 24 hours in my experience). Now we need to modify the wiring so that the fan runs at a good speed. We can do this to set it to top speed, or we can use a pot to control the speed...setting it faster than normal, but slower than top speed. I posted the link to the post for this below. Now put it all back together *using a thin, full coverage layer of arctic silver 5 on each chip*.
