should i get the e3 downgrader for ps3 slim(so i can obviously Jailbreak it, id use the jailbreak for game backups) or the x360key for xbox? and if for the xbox which would be more preferable slim or phat/fat?
and if there are easier downgrade methods for the ps3 that would be nice to know aswell. thank yous.
Get an Xbox 360 and do a drive flash. No need for an xkey. Or get the Xbox 360 and the xkey. On xbox 360 all games work, on a jailbroken PS3 only a few that are already patched.

oh, i didnt even know that there were a lot of games on the ps3 that had problems with backup games. have you ever had a jb'd ps3? or an xbox with an xkey?
I never used an Xkey because I was never willing to pay 100$ for something I can archieve for free, especially becaue you still need a dump of your drive firmware, so the harder part of flashing the drive is already done.
About the jailbroken PS3: No, never had one because I got my PS3 to play online (by the way another advantage of a modded Xbox 360: you can still take it online). With a jailbroken PS3 you have to stay on firmware 3.55, for online you need the latest firmware. By the way, the same reason why newer games don't work on a jailbroken PS3, they have to be patched to work on 3.55, and not for all games you get patches.

well if you're aiming for ps3.... flashers don't come cheap ($60-$90) my flasher cost me around 120 bucks including shipping but it has its advantages.... with the new wave of eboots for games(around 50+ new games) for 3.55 there's also the option going DEX(debug) you get the 4.21 DEX plays all the new games from the get go(original games 4.XX) plus all the old ones and new(multiMAN v04.05.05 DEX)NPDRM psn games also work on DEX off course making backup games work on DEX takes time to learn.... but it becomes more easy(to play backups you will need usb HDD and few other programs) you can forget about PSN on either 3.55 or 4.21 DEX also there's never an "easy" way to downgrade a ps3...... and there's also that minor thing about DEX not being able to read blu/dvd movies they just don't work on DEX
if you're aiming for xbox360 there's a few options
(1) as Eisherz already said it best "I was never willing to pay 100$ for something I can achieve for free" flashing the drive cant be more easy unless you hit a drive that gives you problems(16D5S) some drives require you to have a probe(costs money but you don't have to pay you can build one)PHAT xbox drive can be hacked in few mins (that's including the disassemble of the xbox) slim drives on the other hand require some tools unless you do it your self(drilling hole into the IC on the drives PCB/soldering) apart from that its the most "easy" way to play backups.... multiplayer on XBOX LIVE can be used im not sure about that one
(2)XKEY is ODDE(Optical Disk Drive Emulator) its like daemon tools for xbox lol to make XKEY work you have to dump the firm from the dvd drive so all you do is the same as flashing the drive but you only dump the firm and flash the xkey with it and again as i said in (1) tools and all that still has to be used... you know reading all that back... kinda makes the xkey obsolete compared to regular drive flashing lol... considering the price of it($100) plus the money on the tools to extract the firm can summed up to $150(if not more) im pretty sure premoded xbox with xkey can be bought but im not sure it will be more cheaper than $150... im not sure if this one is XBOX LIVE safe either
(3)JTAG/RGH(Reset Glitch Hack) this one is probably the best way to enjoy the xbox any xbox both PHAT and slim can be used as long as they are on dash 14719 or lower.... JTAG/RGH removes the need to use the drive.... you can play games streaming them from the pc or use usb hdd it also removes the need of region coding so you can play ntsc/pal/ntscj games in other words JTAG/RGH will let you run whatever you need(emulators/XBLA/trainers/hacked dashboards) also take note that XBOX LIVE will NEVER work on JTAG/RGH.... theres also option to make the JTAG/RGH to be a full devkit(same as DEX ps3)......to mod your xbox to JTAG/RGH the price can be a pain the tools needed for this require you to solder not to mention some programming skills.... tools can be around $80-$100 range premoded JTAG/RGH can be pricy but all in all worth it if you willing to pay the price

i myself have RGH slim and im loving it but i also have a REAL DEX(DECHJ00A) and a normal 3.55 slim(CECH2506B) heck i even know some guy who has DECH2000A(slim DEX)
RGH should still be possible on any dash (as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong). But the Xkey in no way acts like a RGH, it only lets you boot backup games from a harddrive, on RGH you can do so much more, including emulators and DLC.
I am thinking about getting me a soldering station and do a RGH myself on a box and get my regular box legit again.
