Hey Guys,

I searched around here to see if I could get some help on repairing my PS3 and figured I would have to ask. I have the 60gb PS3 model that I bought for a repair project which does everything fine besides the blu ray drive. It will not accept discs at all, just gives me the blue flashing light when trying to insert. When I open the drive itself, the laser eye clicks up and down but no light on start up or any motor movement. I tried pushing the laser unit up to see if it would slide, but it will not move back to it's original position on start up. The optical sensor on top of the drive works and sometimes when I try holding the eject button down, the motor will kick on, but not on a consistent basis. I tried replacing the the blu ray drive and laser, using the original drive board, but still no light, accepting discs, or laser sliding movement at all, just 3 clicks up and down of the eye. I replaced and checked the data cable and the other cables on the blu ray. I checked to see if everything on the blu ray is getting power and they are. I reformatted the drive, updated the firmware, reset all the default settings on the PS3, checked disc loading mechanics, but still nothing. I am scratching my head on this one. Does it sound like my replacement blu ray laser is bad, the drive board, or the motherboard? Any info or hints you guys have is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Same issue im having with my 40GB, I've narrowed mine down to the drive controller. the thing with drive controllers is the motherboard is married to your Drive controller.

so my understanding is if you can find the same model motherboard as yours there's a good chance the drive in that machine will work in yours, however i can neither confirm or deny this and its all speculation on what Ive been reading from the net.

Yeah I hear ya. I read online at sites that the motherboard could be shorting out causing your blu ray not to work. I am not sure about that one. I thought it might be the something shorting out cause when I hold open the disc stoppers on the drive and press down the eject button, the laser clicks back towards its original setting very slowly at like one click at a time.
