I got an email today...more bad news in the Teensy 2.0++ backorder situation...

Quote:

I'm afraid I have bad news regarding your pending order for the Teensy++ USB development board.

Until this morning, we believed we could begin shipping Teensy++ next week. Atmel had promised a "factory ship date" on November 17. This morning they rescheduled by 6 weeks, so we won't be getting more chips as expected. Teensy++ will be delayed until the first week of January, and that is if Atmel does not slip even farther behind schedule.

The smaller Teensy board is still in stock, but Atmel has also informed us they're behind schedule on those chips too. We're likely to run out of Teensy soon. If your project is able to work with Teensy (and you need to start work before the end of this year), now is probably the last opportunity to switch.

Words can't describe how unhappy I am with Atmel right now. They supposedly had some sort of labor dispute that set their production back (around the same time a popular open source application suddenly increased demand), but they could have done much better to keep us informed. I know many of you have been waiting patiently for 10+ weeks, and now it's going to be even longer. I'm still hopeful they really will ship chips near the end of this year and production should return to normal early next year.

I'm very sorry about this terrible situation. I wish there was more I can do, but sadly the best I can offer is the latest info as we get it, and hopefully enough time to switch to the smaller board.

-Paul

and yet cloners are still able to get a supply of chips from somewhere. Are Atmel selling to the highest bidder first maybe?

I reckon it's time to give up on the Teensy++. You can only wait for so long.

The PS3Yes Pro looks to be a good choice.

Its predecessor (the PS3Yes) has a proven track record of successful operation. And the manufacturers support their products with regular software updates.

Unfortunately, the PS3yes series do not have I/O pins. Sure, they can jailbreak just fine, but so can the teensy 2.0. I need a ++ for replacing the DS3 with a keyboard and mouse when I play FPS games. Since the lightweight AsbestOS loader, this is the only thing that the 2.0++ can do that the 2.0 cannot do.

Ah right, I though they used the at90usb162 chips as well, well I guess in that case atmel are focussing on making and selling those rather than the AT90USB1286 chips the ++ needs. More demand for the dongle chips so more profit.
