There have been some rumors of a pricedrop to $200...they were debunked by sony...and sony has never told the truth...so it makes me think they are dropping to $200...but I don't know when.
Make sure not to spend the money for the one with the bigger hard drive...you could get an even bigger hard drive for the price difference, or a massive harddrive for only a little more.
Also, sony is releasing something called 'Move'...I think it will be a massive failure with enthusiast gamers, but will be rather successful with casual gamers. They will be offering it in a bundle with the PS3 and the eye for a price lower than buying all the pieces separate. I don't know when this is coming out off hand, but I think it is still months away. Move and 3D seemed to by Sony's main offerings at the E3.
Thanks, I hope the $200 rumors are true and I hope soon :)
Ive seen and read about "move", seems like sony and ms are cashing in on the wii's success. Not sure how successful they will be though.
I was planning on getting a 40GB model (used) and just replacing the HD, but im a little scared of the risk in getting a second hand ps3 only to find out it dies or gives me the yellow light in a few months.
were the newer slimmer versions designed to be less susceptible to those problems? ie newer board, chipsets, etc..
The slim models do seem to be more reliable than the phat models. I suspect it has to do with the more efficient chips being used...if it were not for the fact that all PS3s are the same speed, the slim models could be a lot faster than the phat models, this makes for less wear on the components since many of the parts are running below rated speeds. Personally, I would not buy a working PS3 used...I might buy a couple of broken ones and make a frankenstein if I could do it cheap enough, but I simply don't trust a used PS3 to work very well. A lot of kids and potheads use the PS3...enough said?
Also, the 40GB phat used to be a much nicer system than the 120GB slim...that all changed with firmware 3.15; now a slim is nicer.
You can get 1TB hard drives now...not preinstalled, but you can install them into a new system without voiding the warranty. I got mine at office depot; they were selling it as part of an external hard drive assembly, and it was under $120 after all the instant rebates...and I was left with an external HDD case for my old PS3 hard drive. Keep this in mind when the geek at bestbuy tries to sell you on the 250GB model.
As for move, it is more for casual gamers. From what I can understand, it needs the PS3 camera...and it may seem similar to the wii, but it is very different (I don't know if it is better, worse, or just different).
