I was wondering if Playstation 3's can play backup blu-ray movies which have been burned onto bl-r discs? I know they can play HD movies saved onto a Fat32 formatted external HDD but this isnt adequate as a good quality HD movie has a file size larger than 4gb, you cannot place a file larger than 4gb onto an external HDD formatted to Fat32 which would mean movies would need to be split up to fit on the HDD, like I said, not adequate.
I have an 80gb ps3 which I received for christmas 2008 (not sure if the version of ps3 is important or not). I was considering buying a blu-ray re-writer drive for my PC so I can make backups of my blu-ray films but I dont know much about what the ps3 can play, I dont even know if it can read bl-r discs! The is no point buying a blu-ray re-writer if the ps3 cant play back backup blu-ray movies, so if anyone can help me out it would be really appreciated.
It used to be able to, though i think it was fixed in a firmware update, though im not 100% sure on that.
If you want to watch movies that are larger than 4GB, copy them to your internal HDD, by either using a DL DVD, or streaming them.
yeah i think it was fixed in one of the updates not 100% sure tho but i have roughly 100 blu ray films on my ps3 and the quality is brilliant on all of them
