I am at a point in time where PS3 is the household unit. All of my kids and myself are full fledged junkies. What I want to do is to either fix the issues with my current PS3 or buy a new PS3 system and put my old drive in it so that I do not lose any of the stored data. I know that I could probably join and pay Sony a fee to store the info on line and then recover it but that would defeat the purpose of having access to a hacker forum. I feel that I pay enuff to maintain myself as a gamer without having to pay them an additional fee to do so.
If any one has steps/procedures just by all means help me out.
BTW my problem with my original PS3 is that it is now sometimes more than often not accepting the disc into the machine or just randomly restarting. The blue light comes on more frequent now than ever before. I want to keep my system if I can, but if I can put my old drive in a new system that would be an option I am willing to try and undertake. It would be a project more than worth the effort.
First of all, you cannot put your harddrive into a new system (well, you can but then you have to format it), the data is encrypted to work on the system it was created on only. On the other hand you can transfer your data from one PS3 to another:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEpwnkLWHvs I think your problem is either the drive or the laser, try getting an unopened YLOD PS3 off ebay that is the same model as yours (even the phats have differend drives) and exchange the drives. You have to swich the drive board too for it to work, but that is actually quite easy.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
Cool thanks for the quick response. I am going to get the new PS3 probably in the next week or 2. I wanted to keep the 3 because the 4 is not going to be backwardly compatible which I think is really a stupid move on Sony's part but that is just my PO. I may try and repair my system but that is only if I have any trouble making the switch which thanks to your links look rather simple. thanks
