hello im using my ps3 on my sdtv,
connected with a scart rgb cable, im planning to buy an hdtv can you show me a step by step guide how to set it up, i've heard about some problems when switching from an sdtv to an hdtv, and also give some steps how to get a perfect picture.
First, make sure the TV has HDMI input. In fact, you want at least two of these so that you have one for the PS3 and one for cable/sat (some TVs have one HDMI and one DVI...this will work with a $10 adapter, but DVI does not carry sound, so you would have to use an optical cable for sound). If the screen size is over 25", you want to make sure it is a 1080P screen (it can also have 1080i...but if it only has 1080i, you don't want that TV). If it is a smaller screen, you want at least 720P. If you are buying a used TV, make sure it isn't a tube TV or a plasma...tube TVs don't live up to the resolution specs that they claim, and plasmas don't last forever...so people often try to pass them off on others when their life is running out. Also, some very old LCD HDTVs did not have HDCP support; double-check this with the online manual before buying...it is vital to PS3 use.
If you intend to buy the TV locally, I would recommend buying a couple of good quality HDMI cables from amazon.com ... as retail stores charge a fortune for very crummy HDMI cables.
Once you hook everything up, press power on the system, and hold it until you hear two beeps.
Once you do that, it should bring you to a setup menu where you can set the available resolutions and sound output options. If the menu does not pop up on it's own, you can do it from the XMB.
thanks for this info,
so if i get the lcd tv i put on the hdmi cable throught the ps3 and tv, and i switch on the ps3 and tv normally, does the xmb will appear on the screen, then i set it up myself through display settings?
thanks
