I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with a PS3. I've tried using both composite and HDMI cables, and doing the reset trick with both setups.

When I turn it on it comes on and displays an all black screen. I can tell its putting out something though because when i turn it off the screen changes shades of black. I did notice when I turn it off I have to hold down the button for about 15 seconds.

Any ideas??

I take it the reset trick you were refering to is to hold the power untill you hear the two beeps. The next thing to try is to unplug both PS3 & TV for about a day (or at least a few hours, the PS3 resets after 4 hours I think, TV's vary widely). The PS3 will reset a few more things than it does with the reset trick, and most TVs will reset their handshake protocols when unplugged more than a few hours.
