Geohot has released the long-awaited 3.55 jailbreak. This works for homebrew only.

this only works with ofw 3.55
download the jailbreak from his site extract and place in usb /psp/update
and there is no homebrew yet but soon just wait.

Nice :) thanks for posting this here, really all we need is a cfw that has a backup manager, other os, and new theme features like freestyle dash has ...I wanted to make this happen but no one wanted to help me so the community will have to want a long time before some one even releases a backup manager and we get all our old features back. The only reason ps3 was better than xbox was the other os feature and when i purchased my slim 320gb ps3 i was shocked that the other os feature was gone so i hope some one does make a cfw capable of running a backup manager maybe this cfw can im not sure well we just have to wait and see what happens i think sony deserves all of this. What they did by removing our freedom was fucked and im just glad there getting payback.

dont fink geohot is going to release a backup manager soon or even ever, me i dnt like pirating games myself but it would be a nice addition to the jailbreak , if it stops pirates den ill take r bullet.. hope he or fail0verflow release somefing great for ppl to forget bout backup manager.

ok i need to say my peace about this,,why bother,the sole purpose of having jailbreak for me is to be able to install my games to my harddrive and play them off it,,these are games that i own,,i have alot of them,,sony gives you the ability to increase your harddrive,but dont give you the option to install the game and play it,,microshit,gives you that option but not the upgrade,,something wrong with this picture,,so we have to find another way,,i want my ps3 bluray laser to last,,games from the harddrive play much better,thats a no brainer,,now this freak geobot,where has he been the last few months,failoverflow does something nice for us and this guy wants to steal the spot light,,REALLY,there are hackers out there that work hard to bring us good things and i thank you very much,but what he has done now is useless,great homebrew,might aswell take my chair turn it to the wall and stair at it,if there is no backup manager to use with the new CFW,,ill wait,what im using now works,,

Ok I installed this geohot PS3UPDAT.PUP on my PS3 with software version 3.55 and that worked it gave me the file "Install package file" under game.
Now I am assuming to run backup manager. I need to power down the ps3(cut the power) insert the PS3break v1.2, connect the power, press the buttons power then eject real quickly and wait for the green light to appear on the ps3break v1.2, then insert my usb with manager.pkg and install it?
So then I insert some games and I can make backups on to my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE?
Do I always leave the ps3break 1.2 in the console at all times?
and Can I play games off my external hard drive?
I did not use the ps3break, cause I did not receive it yet.
one stupid question...what does CFW stand for?....I am learning on the fly

i dont think you can run the usb dongle if you are at 3.55 firmware,,and the backup manager does not work either,

Wouldn't it be as easy as signing the backup manager using the signing tools and putting it up on the system?
we have sony's signature so if we just sign the application it'll work, right?

Yeah its nice that it's jailbroken and you can allow homebrew but I still want to be able to save my games to the hard drive and play them like I do with my 360 so I can preserve my dvd laser life. And adding mkv codec capability wouldn't be bad either :)

I bet in about a months time everything that you would ever need would be available...
I started a blog in case you guys wanted to follow it... I just scour the internetz and find stuff to post about that others cannot find as easily.
I don't consider this spam, I just think I'm helping at least a few people... I don't even had any advertisements on my website, I'm not making a profit at all.

Well ill be fucked if this backup manager ever works, there not giving access to the kernal or something to prevent piracy even if we did have a signed backup manager it would NOT WORK im not sure about geos cfw. Yes all we all want is backups other os and a cool new skin looks like people are to lazy to get involved oh well all we can do is hope that we got what we want all i want is the backup manager so i can pirate.....LOL

It is only a matter of time before someone adds peak/poke to the CFW...then it will probably be less than 24 hours before we see working backup managers, and then about 3 more days before sony releases another new firmware, and then the process will start all over, but much faster thanks to all the tools we now have at hand.
GeoHot is too well known to add BM support himself...he has to stay super-clean to stay out of court. He knows people will add it later so long as he does all the heavy lifting for them.

Yeah he's taken the safe road and not added that feature on purpose to keep his hands clean so that no piracy is linked to him.

Yes, you should be able to using recovery mode... I even think all the downloaded files will still be there and you'd be able to play them... you just wouldn't have the install package option. Awesome!
Also, People have gotten CASTLEVANIA backup to work!.... it works on the jailbroken PS3's and the non-jailbroken!
They also got 3D Dot Game Heroes to work!
