HDD is almost full. I'm looking to upgrade but before I do that I would like to get peoples opinion between a 5200 rpm and 7200 rpm hdd.Is the difference in speed between the two that significant?Should I bother with a 7200 rpm?
The speed difference would be considerable on a laptop, but it is a lot less noticeable on a PS3. Copy games to the hard drive from either the BD drive or by FTP are both very slow with any hard drive; a 7200RPM will make no improvement for either of these functions. There will be a very slight improvement in loading times at 7200RPM, but I doubt you would be able to notice it without a good stopwatch. Game saves and most system functions are slow due to lack of ram; at least 75% of the time that most functions take to write to the drive goes to write prep, not actual writing.
Personally, I am very happy with my 5200RPM drive. It was cheap, it runs cool, and it is much faster than the stock PS3 drive anyway.
