Help!PS3 not reading anything?

Hello everyone happy to be back on the forum where I know I can get assistance. I haven't been around in awhile but now I need help. My PS3 is not reading any discs as of today. The icon comes up on top as it is trying to process what it is but never goes through. I have tried games and dvds and nothing works. Is there anything I could try to fix this? Is this the end of my PS3? :( I hope not. I have a 60 GB model the one that came bundled with Spiderman 3 on Blu-Ray. I have the latest firmware. Thanks for all your help in advance. Laters.

thats something sony has to deal with, call up the support line, unless you want to take it all apart void the warrenty or anything else, follow some ones advice and find out it didnt work and you did all that for nothing, just contact sony

Do NOT take it apart, i cant stress this enough. unless you have the knowledge time and money to replace the blu-ray drive. im not in anyway tring to promote sony here, but the easiest way to get it fixed is pay the 150 to get a refurb model,

You don't have to replace the blu-ray drive but you can if you want. I have the same problem but I am going to just replace the lens. There are a few videos on youtube that will show you how to do it. I will spend $75 (half of what Sony wants) for the lens and frame and do it my self. I have given Sony enough money already.

I agree, do it yourself. I have the same problem and I dont have enough to buy a lens yet but i've checked into it, took my ps3 apart to see what I was getting into and if you know how to work a screwdriver its no big deal at all and for half the price, you can do it.

felicialn just a fyi I just purchased mine this morning and should get it by next Monday or Tuesday. I bought it from gaingame.com. You can either pay 65 for the lens or 70 for lens and frame. If you purchase early enough in the day it will get shipped out the same day. Hope you get the money soon. I have been with mine for almost 2 months and it flat out sucks. I just had to bite the bullet and by it. Plus Madden 10 is here.......

Hello! my ps3 also stopped reading any games and blu-rays on Tuesday. before any of you replace any parts in your ps3, can you try the following for me? i got my ps3 working again by fluke last night:
1. turn the switch off at the back of the ps3
2. press the I/O button on the front and flick the switch back on.
3. keep holding the I/O button until you hear the beeps and wait until it turns off.
4. while you're still holding the I/O button, flick the switch off and on again and wait until it turns off.
5. repeat again, doing this sequence a total of 3 times.
6. now just turn it back on...it will ask if you want to have your audio and video go through HDMI, etc.
mine is fully functional again...for now anyways =)

cool. i looked on ebay i think the cheapest was like 64 with 15 shipping from hong kong and that takes like 3 weeks so 5 dollars is awesome ill certainly get this when I get ready. THANKS

haha i know it's weird but i was trying to get into the service menu and try the "restore file system". someone else got his blu-ray working by doing this. i tried that sequence 3 times but didn't get in obviously. i was going to re-read the instruction from some other post and then all of sudden my game started playing. anyways, no idea why it worked but it's still working.

power on/off thing didnt work for me. A couple of times and not for a while now, after long periods without power I would try again and it would read. So I would get online and start playing 1 game of CoD4. About 3/4 through a game my sound would go out. I could hear the other players with headsets and hear game sounds through their headsets but no game sounds (gunfire, explosions, etc.) was coming from my system. When the game ended and some new screen had to be loaded my whole screen goes blank cant hit ps button or anything i have to reset. Also when my problem began I could read dvd and ps1 games but no blu-ray now all disc reading is gone. When I first pulled the top off the ps3 I checked it out before I started digging in further. My dvds would spin and I could see the red laser through the disc. The blu-ray would spin and stop spin and stop and I could see the blue laser for maybe s sec through the first spin and thats it.

That didn't work for me either. Anyhow, I purchased the lens and frame last thursday on the 13 and I will receive it today. Not bad for $5 shipping. I will update tonight if it works.
