40gb ps3. Power went off during an hour fricken long update. Every time you switch it on, it would start the update over and get stuck at 44%. Foolishly, I tried taking it apart and looked for where the core of the problem could be(all I did was void the warranty) So I'm stuck with a 400$ paperweight. I TRIED EVERYTHING. Everything to try to force the update to take, by flashdrive and discs-nothing. Swapped out the hard drive with a sweet 120gb Toshiba which it formatted and looked all good until it went right back to its long lost update-I read every swab of info on the p3 for a year and a had-no luck. I'm telling you guys-Worst Case Scenario...To the point- There is a VERY SMALL disc on the motherboard-about as round as a pencil eraser and the thickness of aluminum foil-VERY Hard to spot-and its in a very small black "encasement." This THING is the equivalent of a PC's CMOS battery-- disconnecting and reconnecting it freed her of the redundant cycle and...happily ever after- I shit you not. mizteree@hotmail.com-is me. I will be more than happy to help you out or walk you through it-I have about 100 hours under the hood and Ive seen every problem they've had-This was the most time consuming to solve though

Glad to hear you fixed it, but removing the battery is a normal step in rebuilding any PC or gaming system. It was not the "Worst Case Scenario". "Worst Case Scenario" is when you get nothing buy a yellow light on the front and no picture on the screen, even after using a heatgun.

the only screen was "update available" then it would start-fail and power off. and if you can locate this little buddy on the underside of the motherboard that looks like any ol capacator-where thousands of people on the web and their dread filled posts suggest noone else has. maybe you could have lightened a huge weight to this industry-as I just have- I AM ALL THAT IS MAN - oh man im just kiddin. but I did get it before you, brains
