If you have a slim ps3 you have to remove the power cord from the back of the ps3 or remove the plug.
Then plug in the dongle and then the power cables back into the ps3.
Press the power button first then the eject immediately after.

But before any of that you have to be on firmware 3.55

On your XMB to to the far left the one after your user name. go down to system settings. then go to System information. you will see the firmware number. If it is above 3.55 you cannot jailbreak it.

Cool, thanks. I have 3.66. Is it possible to downgrade?

The jailbreak I brought says "Jailbreak update and downgradable"

Thanks

You can only downgrade to the firmware that the system was shipped with.

If your ps3 came with 3.60 on it then that is as low as you can get.

But as you say your have a phat then you should be ok, following the instructions on downgrading for your dongle, you should be able to find those on the dongle's website.

You may want to check out PS3News. Between their help section, and guides & tutorials section, you may find some useful information regarding downgrading.
