I have been fooling around with media sharing and need some suggestions. I have quite a few movies (avi format) that i keep on a 2TB external HDD (NTSC format) which is not a NAS device. When I add my movie folder in WMP11 for the media center sharing, I then can't safely remove the drive without first removing the movie folder from WMP11. I know the PS3 won't read my HDD directly unless it is formatted FAT32. Will a FAT32 partition with the proper folder structure work, or does it need be the entire drive? I use my netbook most of the time, so I'm always disconnecting and reconnecting my external drive as I move around. I've briefly looked at PS3mediaserver / tversity / xmbc but won't I have the same issue with all those when trying to safely remove the drive? Anybody have a similar situation and have any kool suggestions?

No it wont have teh same problems.

atm PS3mediaserver / tversity are the only way to play most video files on the ps3. Guess what the PS3 cant do everything :P

So for the next couple of months those are your best options. However thanks to fail0verflow, we may have custom firmwares up and running soon. When that happens then and only then will the PS3 finally be able to do almost everything!

Hopefully it'll support ntfs and all those media codecs that everyone uses but $ony refused to pay licenses for.

Do you mean all those FREE media codecs that everyone uses for FREE, yet $ony refused to implement because they refuse to do any firmware update that makes the system better? We can't even play MKV files for f**k sake!
