Well, here's the story.. I have a friend who lives in Asia, and she was telling me some of her favorite games for ps3. She was rattling off a few, but then one she said stuck out to me "assassins creed 2". So naturally I asked her how on the earth she had assassins creed 2, and she said she simply bought it at the game shop.
Well then I asked, so.. is your ps3 modified, and she said "yes". But she has no idea how it was modified -- her ex did it for her. (Or had it done). Anyways, I'm just posting this because I started doing research on how to play back-ups, and everything I'm seeing so far looks like it isn't yet possible to play back-ups... What gives? For what it's worth I know she's not making it up.. she's not that kind of person.
Maybe it IS possible to play back-ups and I've just been out of the loop for awhile.. I don't know. I searched a lot and read some threads here and everything I was seeing made it look like it's not yet possible..

I came to this forum from searching for information about the PS3 and playing backups, I heard a similar thing from my cousin in Vietnam that asked me if I wanted any copied games for the PS3. Anyone know anything?

All the information I got from my cousin in Vietnam is that the game's are being sold for as low as 200 dong (1 cent in US dollars) and that he suspects them to be copies as no person in their right mind would sell real copies for that cheap, even in Vietnam.

I can assure you that I'm not making any of this up.. I get my kicks doing other things then making up some dumb story for no reason.. I mean, I'm not really making any bogus claims as it is -- I just wanted to know what the current status was on playing backups on ps3, because my friend in Asia seems to be able to do it.
In fact I've been relatively inactive on these forums for quite some time... I just came here when I heard about this from my friend, because I thought this would be a good spot to check on the most recent activity in the ps3 mod scene.
So you guys are saying this is news to you too huh... Yeah my friend said that they are pirated copies of the game, because the real versions would be way too expensive apparently.. As such, they are able to get releases way before they come out. (I assume that whoever pirates the game just downloads it from the internet like everyone else).
The question is how are they playing the pirated games?? I didn't think that was possible yet.. I will try to find out more from my friend if possible, because I am also curious why Asia is playing backups and we are not..

WE've all heard this before, until it's out in the open and confirmed best to take it as a hoax.

This is the biggest lie I've heard yet, and Assassin's Creed 2 isn't out.
I swear, there's anthrax in the air today...

For the record, I have never heard this before.. my friend in Asia likes playing Assassins Creed 2 lol.. that's all I know. She's not making that crap up lol
In fact she probably has no idea when AC2 is supposed to come out, or that it's not even technically "out" yet. Geez this isn't a freaking hoax lol.. I guess you guys have inadvertently answered my question though -- apparently it's not yet possible in the US. Thanks for the help, sort of.

Well no duh it's not out yet, that's why I thought it was strange. I'm not aware what is currently available on usenet and the like, but I do know that it's possible to get games before they're technically released. Some of my friends on xbox live were playing Gears 2 at least a month before it was "out".

Perhaps she was mistaken and it was AC1 (although I doubt it). That is besides the point though -- I could care less about the specific game. Regardless of if she got confused or not, she's buying and playing pirated games.
(many apologies for the triple post. i meant to edit my other one.)

Yeah she was probably playing AC1 and doesn't know the difference. Ask her to record a video of it playing to make herself more believable.

there is no way a PS3 game let alone a copied game(which you stil cant do) will cost less than a dollar, since blu-ray disks cost about $10 bucks per disk.

exactly. either that or she's lying to you

Your friend in nam is not lying. She has a modded PS2, and the modder was generous enough to relabel the PS2 to PS3.
Then the pirate selling games relabeled Assassins Creed 1 and called it Assassins Creed 2. This is called marketing.
Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

LOL, I had to think about that one for a second..
No for real though, I'm not here to scam anybody.. honestly I could care less what you guys think I was just looking for info in the first place. I will try and see if she can provide any hard evidence for your sakes.. don't get your hopes up though, she's not very technologically literate.. her ex was the one who did everything for her (he bought her the ps3).
Plus I wanted to add that regarding one of your previous comments H08, I don't know about that guy selling crap in nam.. I agree it should be at least the cost of the disk lol.. if not more to make profit of course.. I am not associated with that guy so please don't void anything and everything I say because of that.. I would say at the worst simply don't believe it until, if, and/or when you see some evidence.. I'm not asking everyone here to believe anything I'm saying.

I wasn't asking how to backup games I was asking if it was possible noob. Furthermore, my experience is unique. Perhaps the more unique stories of this surface, the more credible it will become.
You're cool, by the way.
