Hello!

I received my new replacement laser from China today (brown ribbon clip!). With the old laser my PS3 stopped reading disks. I would insert them and the clock in the top right corner would spin for about a minute (the disk would spin too), but it would never recognize it.
Now I have the following situation with the new laser: disk inserts and ejects properly. Green and blue lights are on. The clock only makes one turn and the disk doesnt even spin.
I tried the old and new lasers multiple times... Could it be the motor that moves the laser? Could it be a loosely connected ribbon cable? Is my new laser broken? (even more so than the old one :D)

the new laser being faulty is the most likely cause of you problem, depending on how a laser is/has failing/failed, the disc will not spin if say the red beam doesn't shine

your original laser probably had lens focusing issues, hence why it span the disc whilst trying to read it

I put the new laser in a THIRD time and suddenly it works. I honestly did everything the same way each time...
I'm just glad it works again :D

i fitted one last night, doesn't read anything, originally it would at least register that a disc was being looked at by spinning the icon in the top R/H corner of the XMB, but it doesn't even do that now, will try another drive unit sometime soon

glad your is ok, they can be very tempramental sometimes, up until recently i'd never had a problem when fitting lasers, i get one dodgy on, now i have problems nearly everytime i fit one, very odd

lasers need to be calibrated. i believe there is is some kind of auto-calibration that goes on when a new laser is inserted. i've always manually calibrated mine.

please explain the laser calibration, as i have never calibrated any of the lasers i have fitted, and never had a problem

the laser i mentioned above is now working perfectly in another PS3, i believe the PS3 i originally fitted it to had the incorrect bluray logic board fitted, hence why i didn't even get the disc loading icon at the top of the XMB
