He everyone, I'm new to PS3, but have been in the PSP forum quite a bit. I have a bunch of PSP movies that I was hoping to play on the PS3. They are non HD and all formatted for the PSP. I only get audio and it shows the video file as AVC. They are all mp4. I read all the posts on creating ps3 video, but its all greek to me and it sounds like they are making HD videos. The PS3 is supposed to play MP4. Is there a simple way to play standard def movies without going through all the steps in the other thread about containers and repacking. I used wondershare DVD ripper to rip them right to MP4 PSP format and they play on the PSP no problem. I thought it might have been the file name, eg: Bourne_Identity.MP4. I was hoping there is a way to play the movies I already have ripped eventually streaming from my pc, but I need to get them working first . Thanks, adown

Well, first of all, those movies were probably downsized to PSP-quality resolution, so if you're playing this on your PS3 on an HDTV (or even a standard-def TV), the image will likely be extremely pixelated. (Then again, I'm not sure what the resolution is on the PSP's screen, so I could be completely wrong about this.)

That said, you could always get the PS3 Media Server, which will transcode the video on the fly while streaming it to your PS3. Doing this, you can also copy the files directly onto your PS3 hard drive (or perhaps even onto an external hard drive).

That's probably the easiest method; the only major downside is that you have to have 1) a very good wireless or wired connection from your PC to your PS3 (wired is best) and 2) a fairly powerful PC to handle all the transcoding (I'd say... a Pentium 4 ought to be able to handle non-HD stuff fairly decently).

By the way, in case you don't know, transcoding means recoding the video file so that the PS3 can read it, in a nutshell.
