ok i have been searching my butt all nite. i have had no luck. i have 3 questions. ok i have wireless internet that i have to log into. I login to the internet successfully on my pc. now how can i use my ps 3 wifi capabilities to leech off my wireless pc?
I've heard it doesn't work.

2nd question. I've been tryin to use the youtube tutorials. too many ppl talk to much on there and hard to understand. i have an ethernet cord to hook up to the pc. Can i get the internet that way from the pc wireless connection?

3rd question. so far i have tried to attempt on my own. i plug in the internet cord from the ps 3 to the pc ( which im using Vista). the ps 3 internet settings everything is on auto. internet connection failed. the ip address it gave was a 169. how do i fix that?

You don't plug the PS3 into the PC or interact with it in anyway; you plug the PS3 directly into the router/modem - ie the thing the PC plugs into.

Or, if you're using wireless, have the PS3 scan for wireless signals, and then select whichever is yours. You'll then have to put in the password type and key, and then you should be good to go.

There's no need to go from PS3 to PC to router. If you only have one ethernet port on your router, then connect either your PS3 or PC (or both) wirelessly and the other with an ethernet cable. (Whichever one you deem requires the faster connection should get the cable.)

Hope that helps.

thing is i cant plug the ethernet cord in the router they have the router on the rooftop . the router is not ours its the companys router that we pay for and we log-in to it. so ur saying i cant use the internet from my pc while the ethernet is plug into the ps3. From the google searches they said u can do that because u can media share like that. if u can media share from the pc to ps3 then u should be able to get online from the pc without me having to sign-in onte ps 3 browser, it wont let me sign in on the browser when i already signed in on the pc

He does not have a WIFI router.(i guess) Your wanting to hardwire the PC and use the PC WIFI to route the PS3 to the internet?

If he is able to get WI FI on his PC, he should be able to get it on his PS3, his PC is getting WI FI/internet from a source, so his PS3 should be able to do the same.

I think he want to link the PS3 to the PC wirelessly, then the PC to the router wired. Kinda like a wireless bridge connection?

Dont know i this is possible, you could get an ethernet splitter and splt the single cable from the router toyour PC and PS3...would be slower than a normal connection though.

He said that he couldnt connect to the router via Ethernet, so the only way he can have internet on his PC is via Wi FI, so he could do the same with his PS3, unless im missing something.

I am confused. He said that he wanted to leach off of his PC's wireless. You can set the PC up as a bridge. I dont know how thow.

Yeh, just reread the question and he does say that...only other thing I can think of is that he either has a 20gb model (with no wireless), in which case he would need to bridge the connection to his wireless enabled PC, or he isn't using/doesn't know how to use the PS3's wireless.

Either way, I think we're going to need some more info before anyone can help him out.

I was thinking the same thing - he wants to use the PC as a bridge. (Though, also like one of you said, there's no need to do that when they can both wirelessly access the router via WiFi.)

The only thing I know about bridging connections is that in Network Connections on his PC (assuming he's got Windows), he could highlight the two connections - the PC-router connection and the PC-PS3 connection - right-click on either, and choose to Bridge them.

I'm not exactly sure how he would get the PC to "see" the PS3, though.

if u read my statement in t the first question it says i can log into the router or on the internet throught my pc. everytime i connect to the internet i have a netowrk i have to sign -in to to get on the internet. 4 some reason the ps 3 broswer wont allow me to sign in on it becuz it doesnt show the netowrk page that i need to sign in at. so i was tryion to either bridge the connections or somehow wirelessly access the internet from my pc to the ps3. on some tuturials u can make ur pc into a wireless router. but i think u have to have internet wired to the pc and then tell it to ad-hoc and make it wireless to send a signal out to the ps3. i dont think u can do it backwards from wireless to wireless unless i had to wireless cards. i stay on a military base that has a network that not owned by me but pay for the service to connect to the wireless router. i can only sign in on one account. so my pc is only able to connect to the internet. my ps3 slim cant access the sign-in page for me to log-in so i can access the internet.

If you have wireless internet all you would have to do is look for the wireless networks available with ps3 and "login" to that wireless as you would do with your pc using same password, unless like one of the other guys mentioned that you have one of the older ps3s that does not have wifi capability which could explain the whole wireless networks not showing up. what exactly is your setup? Modem -> router or is it one of those modem and routers in one that most ISPs have now?

What I think it is is that once logged in, when trying to access anything, the ISP or whatever will redirect him to a login page.

Thus, no "internet." The university WiFi network here does that, too.

I'm not sure how he would go about getting it to work, though.
