Hi. I've fixed a lot of RROD on xboxs, now I have a 60gb ps3 here with a YLOD.
My friend said he was playing it then it just shut off and wouldn't come back on.
What are the main areas on the board that cause the YLOD apart from the CPU/GPU since I've went over them with the heat gun on 350C and it still has YLOD.
All i get is a spinning fan for 1 second then YLOD.
It won't do the fan test because it's a 60gb model so the drive won't eject either and I took the game out myself.

Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem to try and get it running again?

Thanks in advance.

There is a metal cap on the GPU...you have to remove this and replace the thermal compound in the center and the thermal glue on the four corners. Before you do this, make 1000000% sure that you did the job with the heat gun here before you use quality thermal glue to put it back together.

If you do manage to get the system running again, hotwire the fan or build a fan controller so that this does not happen again.

Well I thought the problem was the GPU myself but it seems awkward to get a YLOD ps3 running again unless maybe I need to do it for longer.

Did you use flux? Did you get it hot enough for that signature smell?

I didn't use flux yet but I'm thinking of buying some. Is the only place to get liquid flux online or would they have it in hardware stores?
