I have been having this problem, for the past couple of days.
The System:
PS3 60Gig (one of the first ones ever made)
Version: 3.01 (recently upgraded)
The Problem:
Every game I try, changes the screen into 3 fuzzy screens.
Everything else works perfectly, videos, music, DVDs.
As soon as the ps3 changes to the video output to 1080i (because my television can only support up to that), the screen goes all fuzzy, and then there are 3 side by side versions on the same screen, and all are very fuzzy, and you can barely see anything.
I have tried, changing the HDMI cable, same problem.
I have tried every single game, and it is all the same problem.
After the upgrade to 3.01, there were no problems what so ever, and I had used the system many times, and played many games.
All of a sudden, it has stopped.
try going to the display settings and untick all bar the first one (480?) then load a game if that works (or not) tick the next one and so on
when i try to put my telly into a resolution it doesnt support it goes into that kind of view (normaly pinkish fuzz sometimes green)
it could be that your telly has stoped supporting the resolutions (im sorry about that if its the case ur telly is on its last legs) or i could be wrong
another test is to try the standard cable from the ps3 plug it in then turn on the ps3 holding the power button (this resets it (u wont lose save files etc just seems to reset the video and sound settings)) if you can play games then, that narrows it down to your telly or your hdmi out on the ps3

I tried the tick box thing already, but I cant untick the 480.
I tried many times, to keep something else ticked while unticking the rest, but it just wont allow me to do it.
I need to look for my other cables.

I hope its not my tele, although I have had it for a really long time... around 5 years maybe a little less...
Its a Sony 50inch, Projection / LCD, so the max support it has is up to 1080i or 1080p, which ever one is lower...
I remembered that I recently installed Playstation Home.
So out of curiosity, I unistalled it, and low and behold, everything is back to normal, well the PS3, said that all my game data is corrupt, and to reinstal everything.
I just reinstalled, and everything is working fine... finally...
