I am experiencing a little bit of an issue with a 60GB backwards compatible model PS3. I tried playing Shadow of the Colossus on my PS3 and ran into some weird issues. The video was really choppy and so was the audio. I tested the game on my room mates PS3 and it worked just fine (he has the same model as mine) I tested another PS2 game that I knew worked on my PS3 and the same thing happened. I put a blu-ray game inside (Mirror's Edge) and it loaded fine. Any suggestions or fixes? I am currently running FW3.0 but I don't think that's the issue since my room mate has 3.0 as well. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. Much obliged.
Is the disc in good condition? Is whatever lead your using loose in anyway? If you feel comfortable with it, you could open your PS3 and gently clean the lens with some high percentage alcohol. Did it to my 60gb when it stopped reading games all together and it works as good as new so far (touch wood.) It's not very difficult to open, just make a note of what screws go where, theres loads of guides online. Good luck, and that's an amazing game by the way :D
At first I thought it might be a laser issue (if I remember correctly, some of the earlier - or newer - models had separate lasers for DVDs and BDs, which would explain why only your DVD-based games had this issue), but laser issues wouldn't result in choppy video/audio.
As fatleon said, it could be that your cables are simply not plugged in correctly and/or all the way. It's unlikely that's the case, but it never hurts to try it out.
I know, I thought if it was a laser issue it would stop reading them all together, but I remember on my PS2 once, I was playing a game and the graphics went all choppy for no reason and a day later the laser was dead. So maybe it's a sign of things to come. Was it working ok before FW 3.0? Or maybe if your using a HDTV, check the settings on the PS3, maybe it's trying to upscale the image into a mode unsupported by your TV. Good luck!
That's odd. Hopefully they fix all these bugs in the next update or better yet try to eliminate all the bugs they can before releasing it. Glad you got your problem sorted out. Have fun :D
