Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

From the reviews and youtube vids seems liek its just a cosmeti cupdate, nothing major like ps2 emulation :@

though what I find funny is that the owners of the new slim consoles before anything will find themselves having to update to this firmware, kindda funny bet they will have thoughts like "It's brand new why do I have to download this?!" :P

Got the following from here, http://www.haxnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=10846

Quote:
[*]Multi-Audio - Audio can now be output to multiple connectors simultaneously. You can set this option under [Settings] > [Sound Settings] > [Audio Multi Output].
[*]Video Content Playback - During Video content playback, you can now use the right stick to play content in slow playback, fast reverse, and fast forward.
[*]Settings Descriptions - Now below each setting option under the Settings tab on the XMB, there is now a brief description in small font.
[*]New Start Up Logo - Upon starting up your PS3, you will be greeted with the new ?PS3? Logo.
[*]Copy/Paste Function - There is now a copy/paste function for the web browser, and messages.
[*]Internet Connection Speed Test - Check your internet connection upload/download speed. Go to [Network Settings] > [Internet Connection Test]
[*]Internet Browser Screen Capture Feature - Press Triangle on Internet Browser, then under File > Save Screenshot.
[*]Custom Remote Play Settings - Manually set a device (such as a PSP system) to be used for remote play.
[*]New Avatar Support - Support for future additions of PSN avatars has been added. No new avatars have been added along with the firmware. However the support is there.
[*]Whats New The ?Information Board? will be replaced with a ?What?s New? section, which allows you to enjoy interactive PlayStation news every time you start the PS3 system. Located under the PlayStation Network icon, ?What?s New? displays the latest and greatest game, video, PlayStation Network and PlayStation news and releases, as well as your recently played games, in a sleek, new animated format.
[*]Status Indicator ? In the top right corner we?ve added an indicator bar, which displays your user icon, friend icon, the number of friends you have online and a small message icon to let you know if you have any new messages. The indicator also includes a scrolling ticker that features the latest news from PlayStation Network. In addition, when you press the PS button, the battery life indicator will no longer cover up the clock.
[*]Friends List ? Now your PlayStation Network friends will appear in a slightly redesigned format on your Friends List. Also, messages will now be viewable from each of your friends? respective profiles.
[*]PlayStation Store Shortcuts ? We?ve added a handy shortcut icon to the PlayStation Store under both the Game and Video categories so you can access the latest content quickly and easily.
[*]Personalization ? Personalize your PS3 with new dynamic custom themes and avatars. Dynamic themes as well as free and premium avatars will be available through PlayStation Store. A dynamic theme takes your screen to a whole new level as it incorporates animated objects into the background.
[*]Trophies ? Showcasing your hard earned trophies just got better. Update 3.00 gives game developers the ability to modify how they display trophies for add-on content. Base and add-on game trophies will continue to be combined into a single list so you can see where you stand in a game as a whole. Within that list, trophies will be broken out into subcategories?base trophies and add-on trophies?that way, you can easily view the percentage of your base game trophy collection, and separately track your trophy progress in add-on packs. Look for this enhancement to be included in upcoming games.

My system is downloading it right now. I am excited for some new features, but I also need the update so I can play online in Killzone 2.

Do you tink Sony will ever pay for the rights to allow the PS3 to read external hdds which are formatted as NTFS? I'm sure tehy know it's what many of us want as all our media will be on such a device.

There are other formats that would work for this, and that they would not have to pay for a license for...and they still don't offer support. Why would they pay for a license...they would never use it!

I hate the scrolling news thing up in the right corner...and the "what's new" feature does not have anything new in it. I guess it is still better than the McDonalds ads on Xbox360.

*Multi-Audio - Audio can now be output to multiple connectors simultaneously.
-This could be cool for people using it as a MP3 player...but it is a very expensive MP3 player.
*Video Content Playback
-About time, but the video controls still leave a lot to want.
*Settings Descriptions
-If you can't figure it out from the title, then you also can't figure it out from the mini-descriptions.
*New Start Up Logo
-I liked the old one...the new startup seems a bit limp-wristed.
*Copy/Paste Function
-About time, it should have been there on the first 20GB model's first firmware.
*Internet Connection Speed Test
-There was already a web browser for speedtest.net...what is the point of this?
*Internet Browser Screen Capture Feature
-Can't think of any good uses for this...but then the browser is virtualy useless anyway.
*Custom Remote Play Settings
-I don't have a PSP, but I was under the impression that you could do this before.
*New Avatar Support
-There already was new avatar support...was there some kind of arbitrary limit of like 200 avatars? And we still can't even make custom avatars. What a joke.
*Whats New
-There is nothing new in there; there were ads for GTA4 and GT5 Prolouge in there...both were old a year ago.
*Status Indicator
-The scrolling ads are rather annoying.
*Friends List
-It does look better than the old one...but it does not fit the look & feel of everything else in the menus.
*PlayStation Store Shortcuts
-One wasn't enough? They needed 2? If they want to increase sales, they should put some of the new games up there.
*Personalization
-And I thought too much memory was used as it was...
*Trophies
-Seems like more clicking to get the same information.

Overall, it seems more like a bloatware package than anything.

i agree, the font is way to big, they need to put an option were you can change it to normal size. And does anybody know if there going to be updating the avatars tommorrow?

Mostly bloatware indeed, but that bandwidth tester is interesting.

haha the bandwith tester and the dynamic themes are really the only things i liked. i like the xmb simpler, no large font, no PS store for everything, no grey boxes for friend lists! And Hey SONY, Were Are Those Avatars You Promised!

What they should do is make all this extra crap optional and see how many people actually use/want it. That would give them a little bit of a wake up call. Though I will say the sparkly background is kinda pimpin haha

I dunno.

I actually liked a fair bit of what they did. The new video playback thing is pretty neat. It's not very useful or responsive, but it's still neat to mess around with.

The multi-audio thing also sounds like it might be a cool thing to use. If I ever get my other 5.1 system hooked up correctly, I could totally make, like, a 10.1 surround sound system. That'd be bitchin'. Sure, it'd all be the same thing from two different speakers, but heck, it'd be worth testing out.

I would probably appreciate the larger font more if I was still playing on my 32" TV, but it's still nothing that destroys the experience.

And the new start-up logo... well, I don't really care either way, but hey, it's coolio. And I always thought the copy-paste thing was already there? I know it worked when highlighting text.

What I'm most interested in, though, is that "Custom Remote Play Settings" thing. Is Sony now officially implementing that in response to hackers figuring out how to do the same thing?

And all the other things - Friends, Trophies, blah blah blah - seems like junk, but useful junk to some, I guess.

I think Sony was planning of doing this anyway, regardless of the Open Remote play thing, which is working again with this new firmware.

Quick question because I don't want to start a new thread just to answer it:

Ever since the 3.0 update, my PS3's been freezing at odd and random moments - though it's usually when it's accessing the internet in some way, shape, or form. (It also happened when I tried copying a portion of text I'd written.) The most noticeable moments have been while playing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and searching for online games, and it's also happened sometimes while I'm simply surfing the net.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I've also got another comp right next to it and sometimes the two are on at the same time (I'm disinfecting the other one, you see), which might be messing with the internet connections. So it might be that instead of the firmware update, but I just wanted to make sure.

Yay/nay?

I have noticed that since the firmware update, the XMB runs much, much slower when I access it while playing a game, or while in playstation home. This is the only problem I have noticed...but it might be more severe with certain games. The PS3 does not have much memory...and the XMB keeps taking up more of it.

I haven't really noticed any changes, since these days I use my ps3 for streaming from my PC. It does seem to load videos a lot quicker then before.

Go to SYSTEM SETTINGS and find the option DISPLAY [WHATS NEW] and set it OFF and that will make the PS3 start up in the GAME section of the XMB like how it always did, but the Whats New icon will still remain in the Playstation Network section of the XMB.

There is a way to fix the ticker/clock in the top right corner of the screen, not the whole entire thing but the scrolling news will be gone. Go to DATE AND TIME SETTINGS and change the year only. Right now it would be 2009 so change it to anything in the future like 2010 for example. But try changing it to something really high like 2067 for example so then you don't have to worry about changing it ever again and it doesn't effect anything in a bad way you won't see the year 2067 anywhere at all so its perfect. When you are done changing the year to something higher then turn your PS3 off and the next time you turn it back on you will see no more scrolling text. 100% its better than nothing.

Multi audio is a nice feature that I didn't expect to have a use for. But I have a 5.1 receiver that I can't always use because the kids are sleeping. I would always have to go to the settings and manually change the audio out to HDMI. Pain in the neck, but not the worst thing in the world. This makes it one less thing to think about. I want to find more dynamic themes. Using LBP right now (woOt!). Haven't seen any lag in my XMB during games.

I agree that the XMB doesn't have a consistent look and feel anymore. I don't care about the video playback at all. I've given up on using the PS3 to play or stream movies. Menu and controls are too clunky and annoying. Maybe they should give us a 3rd party app. Oh well. At least I'm benefiting from something in this update.
