I hope someone on here can help me, as I have been trawling the net for days trying to find a solution to my problem, but no joy :-(
I opened up the bluray drive of my 40gb PS3, and then closed it up again, without actually touching any components inside (long story as to why). The drive itself is the newer one, the one that does not have the sensor at the front and pink cog underneath.
Now after i closed it up and reconnected everything, the drive refused to work correctly, in that it takes a disc in, but the whirring noise continues for a bit longer than usual, and the disc doesnt spin up. It did eject the disc however.
After much researching and opening up/watching the mechanism in motion, it appears to me that
a) the two "pincers" on the lid that lift/drop the magnetised spindle do not engage properly in that they are not releasing the spindle
b) the two sliders on either side of the drive arent moving properly to raise the deck to the spindle, in order to spin the disk.
Here is my problem, I cant seem to get the sliders to move properly. I have had a look underneath at the "boomerang" arm that seems to connect (or supposed to) the two sliders together. One of the prongs of it is in a gap on the right hand slider, but the left hand prong doesnt seem to connect to anything on the left hand slider, and i cant see how it manipulates the slider!
If anyone can help shed some light on the correct way the drive should be rebuilt or where everything should be would be amazing, as this is really driving me mad now! :-(
