Hi!
I know that this is a very common problem with many consoles and the best fix is to get it sent to the manufacturer, but I won't do that, because sending the PS3 to repairs would cost more then a new console. I will try to describe as detailed as possible.
So one day I wanted to install back GTA4 after I (used the PS3's HDD somewhere else) reformated the HDD, so the GTA4 require some files to be the HDD so it reads from the disc and sends info to the HDD, but something weird happened - it stuck, waited about an hour (usually needed only 10 minutes) and decided to simply reboot the PS3 (first I tried the Eject, but nothing happened, then I simply turned it off the soft way and removed the disc). After the reboot I noticed that the icon in Game category is missing and no more noise from the PS3, so the disc wasn't reading. So then I decided to take it appart, I noticed that the laser is on for few seconds and then stops, I think because the disc isn't spinning.
For Some reasons I can't get the disc out either, it keeps getting stuck, but once I got it right.
So is there a possible chance that the problem isn't the laser?
A new BD-ROM or a new laser isn't cheap you know...
