In short, my disc drive doesn't work.
Story: I bought a PS3 off ebay supposedly working, it came in a box with no packing and a huge dent in the front. Well, the disc drive was not functioning so I asked for a refund, no response, asked ebay, no response, told paypal and opened a dispute, got my money back without even having to send the box back. OK, great for me, even with a broken disc drive it's still a PS3. Or so I thought. I decided to put that money to some good use and replaing the drive. I opened it up, drive will not accept discs at all no motors working, nothing, I can't even force it in there. So I open up the drive further, I realize motors are japped, mechanisms are too confusing so I say fuck it, I'll buy a new part altogether. Look up my model number, buy a new drive, laser and all. It gets here and I try and hook it up... Oh wait, no control board. So, go online, find what I thought was a compatible control board, and hook it up.
Well good it accepts discs but oh wait, it can't read any of them. DVD's, games, nothing. It says something along the lines of no disc inserted.
Well I'm out pretty much all my money again with very little progress. did I get the wrong board? is it fixable, or am I SOL??? I just want this to be over, I want to play my PS3 and not just tekken, street fighter, and burnout!!! I hate to spend any more money fixing this but I fear I may need yet another control board or something stupid I may have overlooked. Or maybe I was scammed on the drive I bought, maybe it really doesn't have a working laser? if someone can help at all, has maybe gone through a similar replacement, that would be so fantastic. I'm usually great with electronics but I'm reaching the end of my rope here.
Summary: Broken disc drive will not even accept discs, replacement accepts discs but does not read them.
Is it incompatability or what? I was hoping to at least have a working laser lens out of all this since that was my biggest investment but now I'm afraid I need to start over again.
