From the text file:

"!!EXPLOIT IS FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY!!

Usage Instructions:

Compile and run the kernel module.

When the "PRESS THE BUTTON IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS" comes on, pulse the line
circled in the picture low for ~40ns.
Try this multiple times, I rigged an FPGA button to send the pulse.
Sometimes it kernel panics, sometimes it lv1 panics, but sometimes you get
the exploit!!
If the module exits, you are now exploited.

This adds two new HV calls,
u64 lv1_peek(16)(u64 address)
void lv1_poke(20)(u64 address, u64 data)
which allow any access to real memory.

The PS3 is hacked, its your job to figure out something useful to do with it.

I guess it realy is a hardware mod (a rather easy one at least)...and it would seem that all sony has to do to kill it is to skip the "press PS button" prompt.

Read the post about the PS3 being hacked, now their is a link to a hack program. Will wait to see how it pans out, and how much more evolves.

Geohot says this won't work with the PS3 slim. But is it possible do you think that the Slim will get homebrew.

that's a difficult question, as it depends.
if the software exploit requires a certain part of the hardware to function. and the slim doesn't have it, they will have to find a work around. but like i stated before, this is a step in the right direction :D

i have my ps3 *fat* since christmas.. while they throw u dead with all the slim ones, i searched !!everywhere!! to find a fat one with 80gb.

mine had to arrive from very far.. but i knew that if there would be some exploit, they only gonna do the trick for the fatty.

its just like all the previous consoles..
$ony brings us psx, we hardwaremod it, they come up with slim version that no-one can mod, simply becuz the market is 2 small.

same hapened with ps2 and ps2-slim.
exactly hapened again with ps3, ps3-slim.
there isnt a new concept behind this, and im happy i got myself a fat one :)

As for i am... I do!

tubby chaser!

i wish there was a reason to exploit my ps3 right now but i just don't see one yet. Will do it as soon as there are some emulators n such available. I got plenty of fat ps3's that the blurays don't work on.
