Hi
A while back I installed Linux on my PS3. Doing that I didn't realize I was going to erase all my saves and Playstation Eye videos. But I did . Bummer. On there was one specific video I wish was never erased and meant alot to me. Alot. Now I have Linux on there and was curious if it might be possible to use Linux to get it back. Maby a file recovery Program? Are there any other possible options I might have getting that file back? Is there anywhere or anyone I could possibly bring it to and pay to get the file back? Thank you so much everyone. I have the 80gb PS3 the motor storm edition. Thanks again. This means alot to me.

yikes! idk but my best guess is that they are gone. May be able to get them back if you pay a professional data recovery as they have better recovery tools which cost a bomb!

hm......
Firstly, STOP USING YOUR PS3, the more you use it, the less likleyhood of you recovering it.
You probably best off removing the hard-drive from the PS3, hook it up to a 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure (search Amazon) and run some recovery software (had some good results with EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard)
Make sure you dont install the software on the hard drive you want to recover from.
I dunno how the videos would be stored (never used playstation eye) but if their stored as standard .avi, the just look for anything ending with that in the data recovery results. If they're not saved as .avi, then your going to have to find which format its stored in.
If this doesnt wor, your gonna have to get a professional recovery done. These are really expensive (£200 +) and your still not guranteeded to get it back.
Good Luck !

Thanks! Thats an Awesome Idea. I just am a little worried about opening it up. Is there a reliable guide for that? and you don't think there might be any way of accessing the Eye files threw file recovery threw the Linux? Thanks again.

You wont need to open your PS3 to remove the HDD. If you look on the bottom of the PS3 there is a small cover - remove it and you can take out the hard drive. You wont even void your warrenty. Use google for more info if needed.
However, I dont think connecting it to your computer will work. The PC would be able to recognise the file system, and will want you to format the drive (again).
Good luck :).

The video is gone.
PS3 uses an encrypted file system that has not yet been cracked. It might be cracked tomarow, it might be another year, it might not be cracked untill the PS4 comes out.
The only hope for recovery would be to recover the entire file system and everything in it, then to load the recovery back onto the drive. If you have used the system since the format, then you will not be able to recover everything, and thus you will not be able to get at anything.

Thanks Again everybody for the help! Yay! :)
also I haven't been using the PS3 in hopes I might recover it. I wanna check all the options.
Has anybody tried using a linux file recovery program with in the Ps3 to recovery anything before? Is there a program for linux that might possibly find the encrypted file and then I could just back it up to an external hard drive for the time being, till it can be cracked? Or, Could I take the hard drive out, put it in an enclosure and back it up to an external hard drive. Then maby one day when its cracked check out the files then.
Thanks

Thtas proberly your best best, use some software to clone your hard drive and hope the encryption is broken one day.
You cant use Linux to recover as its on the same Hard Drive.
