It?s available now via System Update ? but, you know ? if you want to stay hacked DO NOT UPDATE! I repeat: DO NOT UPDATE. We?ll keep you posted on what?s what. Stay tuned.
Update: Updating to 3.42 (on my non-hacked console) right now?
Update: I can confirm Sony has patched PSGroove/PSJailBreak/PSFreedom? Whatever you fancy ? it?s patched. Do not update if you wish to remain hacked. Perhaps a little homebrew can bypass this mandatory update.
Update: Demonchild, has confirmed that Logan5 PS3 Proxy Tool works for bypassing this 3.42 update. Keep the Firmware Update box unchecked. This?ll get you back on PSN, but remember: Sony can detect Backup Manager and whatever other homebrew you run, which can likely result in your console getting banned.
Update: Remember [All you got to do is go into your Network settings, and set the DNS nameservers, to custom/manual and change both of them to:67.202.81.137 It works again. Set that as your primary & secondary DNS on your PS3 and you?ll be able to bypass 3.42. Exercise caution ? who knows whose watching on the other end.

HeHe...reminds me of that GeoHot post that said not to update from 3.15 because it would stop hacks. I am sure that sony will be cutting off support for 3.41 consoles within a couple of days, even with proxy hacks. Hopefully this is easily patchable and we will see a new hack soon...I at least need the firmware that GT5 uses before I stop connecting to the PSN.
Good thing there are no games I want, and thus, I currently have no use for the exploit.

Just remember not to update and make sure you have auto update off otherwise the console may update for you itself.

This exploit seem to be more a pain in the ass than what its worth. Choosing not to be on PSN seems to be well just dumb. What if your "backed up" game needs a patch/update?!
I don't think that even inserting the legit Blu ray disc will work for the game to be updated if your PS3 is not on the most current PS3 firmware.
So if a person decide to run this exploit, is that person going to have to avoid any games that have online play?Again, this exploits seems to be more of a hassle than what its worth.

Is there any type of file/hdd manager yet for the PS3?
Like with a 360 (jtaged), the disc can be ripped from the disc (iso) and the files explored. There's always a folder called "Systemupdate". It'll contain firmware (dashboard) updates. That folder can be simply deleted and then the folder containing the rest of the game can be transferred to the 360 hdd.

This is posted everywhere so no need for PM's
I'll give it right here.

Playing games for free is more important to me than playing online...
My 60gb will not be updated unless I score a second used ps3 on the cheap.
Someone needs to come up with a usb device that works when you want to play a back up, then pull it out when you want to go online. Even if the software had to be reinstalled every time you wanted to play a back up.

If I jailbreak my PS3, can I still go on the PSN as long as I don't boot up with the exploit? For example, I boot up normally without the jailbreak initialized. I know that no matter what, I need to update to 3.42 to even get on the PSN. I just want to now if I jailbreak my PS3, is that the point of no return? Am I pretty much out of the PSN until possible CFW?

Quote: RichDevX has just announced over on his twitter account that he has been successful in executing lv2 privileged code on a ps3 debugging station. What that means is that he will be able to port psgroove to any PS3 FW versions that are pre 3.42. So pretty soon you wont have to update your PS3'S to version 3.41 to be able to run the exploit.

Cool. Maybe they'll have it out this week since that report is dated for a week ago.
