So, my ps3 was literally used for everything i did electronically. All movies, pictures, music etc went through my ps3, until the fabled day of the clock error. After that, things worked okay sometimes, sometimes they didnt, and now i am at complete utter failure.
So, heres what my ps3 does: Whenever i hit the power button, the console turns on, plays the start-up music, but the video freezes. Even though the video is frozen, i can still click the d-pad buttons, and hear the scrolling of the XMB, but, the screen is frozen. I have tried on Composite, and HDMI connections already, both have the same problem.
So, i went to the recovery area, and did most all of the fixes i saw, and then called Sony. They assured me it was a HDD failure / corruption, and that i should send it in for fixing. Before that, i put in a new hard drive i happened to have next to me, and formatted it. Then, after setting all of my date, time, and name, the XMB loaded, to only freeze again.
Maybe out of 100 times turning the ps3 on, the XMB will load / scroll about 3 times, and i can scroll for a couple minutes at the most.
So, my question is, what is the problem? Is it a faulty GPU, is it the clock error still, or is it really just a hard drive and something needing to be reset? I dont know if the ps3 has a NAND or something, but WHAT could the error be?!
Thanks in advance. More information available on request ^.^

They seem to be right for the hdd problem but you try that and didnt work.
Test it again because hdd seems to be your issue, take out the hdd format it on pc put it back and let it reformat it through the dashboard.

Also make sure the hard disk connectors are tight; if they are loose, it will make all drives appear to be bad.

How do i check the hard disk connectors? Do i need to open up the console more?
Also, when trying to format the hard drive etc, i have to do it blindly, because sometimes it wont show up on the screen.
Ill try a new hard drive and format it a couple hundred times, see what happens.
Appreciate the advice.

When you slide the drive into the bay, you should have to push with a little bit of force to get it all the way in; if it just slides in and out easily, then you might need to use superglue and paper to make the connections tighter. If you can, plug the drive into a pc and do a full format on it, so that the PS3 is forced to do the same. Here are the commands to clean it up completely from windows:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 1 (replace "1" with whatever number the drive showed up as)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
assign
exit
