My PS3 got the YLOD and needs to be sent in to be serviced. Is there anyway to recover the data from the HDD? I've connected it to my PC but it doesn't recognize it in XP, and if I was to put it in another PS3, I hear it needs to be formatted to be recognized, which I obviously don't wanna do.
Isn't there any programs out there that is able to read it? Or am I screwed and have to start over?
Sorry, the hard drive is encrypted and will only work with the PS3 mainboard that it was formated with. The only hope of getting saves from a YLOD'd system is to try to fix the YLOD yourself.
Yeah, I thought as much :(
Ah well, looks like I'm gonna have to start all over. At least it'll wipe some of the junk I never used.
Oh yeah, if I get Sony to fix it, they'll most likely send a refurb, but what are the chances of this problem happening again on the new one? Is it an inevitable problem on the newer models or are some completely fine?
Well I hear there is no permanant fix for the YLOD. My sister got here's fixed and it's just failed again for the 3rd time. So I'd probably be safer with a refurb, I just don't like the thought of it might happen again at any time. When I phone Sony, I'll ask them about this and see if they can do anything, even if they just give me an extended warranty on it or something. At least I wouldn't have to pay again.
