i've tried pressing the power button then pressing the eject button at different speeds, but i have not been able to get the jb tool to boot not once. always right to the red light, anyone else have this issue and can offer some advice?

Which jailbreak are you using ? Are you sure it is not faulty ?

Did you power down the unit before trying the jailbreak?
On a phat console turn the ps3 off from the back then turn it back on and press power & eject.
On a slim, unplug the power cable and plug it back it then power & eject.

This has to be done each time you want to run the jailbreak.

If it still doesnt work, did you flash the device with an incompatible file? you should only install the one specific to the dongle.

If these dont work then its either that the dongle is faulty or your ps3 is not on 3.41, the jailbreak does not work on 3.42 or 3.50 firmware versions

i planned on downgrading since mine is already on 3.50. i've seen videos of people running the downgrader from 3.50.

Also i'm almost positive i didn't flash the dongle correctly, it kept saying i didn't have libusb0 or something along the lines of that.

atm the downgrader only works on the original dongle from psjailbreak.com I;ve not heard of anyone making it work for other dongles yet.

You know if you have a real psjailbreak dongle if you paid at least $99 for it, if not then its a fake.

So if you have a fake or one of the many clones out there and are on 3.50 then you wont be able to use the jailbreak. You can either buy the original at $99 or wait to see if someone gets the downgrader working on the clones.
