PS3 Media Server is very very good, especially if you're on a wired setup. With a wireless setup, converting .mkvs on the fly causes a fair amount of lag...or at least is used to on my old PC with WIN XP.
I, personally, have no issues with WMP 12 on WIN7, and haven't tried PS3 Media Server on the new PC since WMP12 does what I need.
I use ps3 media server as well, i like it. Works on wireless as long as you play or pause. No fast forward and no rewind. Wired is definitely better. I may be doing something wrong, but Ive never even been able to get ps3 to pick up my WMP on Win7

Yeah if your using wireless and streaming a movie pressing the FF/RW button is definite bad idea, especially if your really into the movie because you will have a very hard time trying to get it back to the same point, most times I end up starting from the beginning. I have been able to get win7 to work but I like to stream HD video content which is usually in MKV format which win7 doesn't recognized and a lot of my videos never stay in my library because of the formats they are in. Another thing I have problems with is streaming music to my stream from wmp because it always loses connection, but I think this is ps3 fault because before the update 3.15 it use to work fine.
