PS3 Online Gaming at College?

I will be attending UT Austin this Fall, and I will be taking my PS3 there. I will be staying at a residency known as Dobie. It is considered off campus and private in comparison to the other dorms that are on campus. They have wireless internet, but it's separate from the college. What they do is have us sign up for an account with their building so we can use the internet. I was just wondering how I could get around this with the PS3 so I could play games online. My friend also told me to buy a router for my room (which isn't allowed) but it does speed up your overall internet. I'm not a computer tech, so I don't understand the reason behind it. But using the wireless regularly is slower than having your own router in the room.

Anyways, any suggestions for the PS3 stuff? Wii solutions would be appreciated to.

Well if they do it the same as other universities, they usually have you register your MAC Address of the device under your account. Because that way, you just get the MAC Address of the system (they have them for both the PS3, 360, and Wii), and register it with the network.
