Hi all,
Recently got the dreaded RSOD (Red Screen of Death), Just wondering if any of the afterdawn community has experienced this and if they were able to fix it without sending it to sony, I have tried various fixes and I am stumped...
I've done the following with no successs...
1) Zero filled HDD
2) Recovery Menu - Every option tested (nothing helpful)
3) Remove CMOS battery
4) Pulled apart cleaned, checked for burn marks
5) In a heroic attempt of my mind saved the ps3 from going under my car tyre.
I dont think a reflow would be needed as everything is functioning, I am not sure whether my problem lies in the NAND.
any help is much appreciated.

wow never heard of this problems before. some say its currupt firmware so you may want to install it again see if that works.
You'll have to install the frmware via a usb memory card. Let us know if it works.
Or maybe not, did some googling and cant find a fix, most ppl sent to sony and get a replacement.

@bigo93 thanks for the reply,
I have already been through the ps3's recovery menu to install a firmware update, it installs then boots into the firmware screen where it says installing firmware gets to 41% then restarts into RSOD.... this is driving me insane...

*UPDATE*
I have taken the HDD out of the RSOD ps3 and put it in my other ps3 that is running the same firmware, formatted and reinstalled the firmware, then put it back into the RSOD ps3, I have been told to start the ps3 in recovery mode with the formatted/ updated HDD and Restore the file system, whoever when it starts it comes up with the error (8001002B) any ideas on what this error is, I have searched the web and it seems to be related to games, but I haven't even been able to boot up to create a user.... so very frustrating.

*UPDATE*
Ok past the 49% problem, seems it was a loose ribbon cable, Firmware installed 100% boots up and surprisingly shows the red screen... I was wondering if anyone here has reflashed their NAND chip and if so could you lend some advice.

*UPDATE*
Seems that RichDevX a common hacker/dev in the scene is working on a jig to put the PS3 in factory/service mode thus allowing read/write functions to the NAND, thus removing the RSOD....

Hi, i just bought a PS3 160Gb Slim a couple of weeks ago
A few days ago i just got RSOD, after rebooting and keep getting the error, i went ahead and formatted my hdd on the pc.
Since then i have been trying to reinstall 3.50 firmware (i am forced to do that on start) but i keep getting error 8002f14e at 6% of fw install. I have tried re-formatting, taking out the battery, adjusting bd ribbon cable, recovery menu, etc. but no luck.
Is there any way to restore the console to it's initial factory settings? Reset flash memory? Or anything else i could try to get the the screen past the firmware installation?
Thank you very much in advance.

I have the same issue. I did the firmware update with usb and it did 100% update but when the system reboots the rsod came back.

Hey.
The Fu***** RSOD came to me today, I was updating to 3.55 from usb. Now everytime I boot up the ps3 tries to update, but even before it completes to 1 percent it goes to RSOD.
I see it's suddenly happening, like an epidemic...
