(Yes I am a PS3 Noob. Yes I searched the forums. Yes I am sorry to bother you)

Quick question: Can you use any laptop hard drive (2.5") as a replacement in a PS3 Slim? I am thinking about buying a Slim and want to upgrade before putting any saves or anything on the hard drive.

Thank you

Yes. As long as it's 2.5" SATA. Not entirely sure if there's a limit to how big a HDD you can upgrade to.

well as ppl have said, no confirmed size limit, but does the slim still use 5400rpm drives or 7200rpm ones?

Sony is far too cheap to pay for 7200RPM laptop drives or the cooling required for them...we can be relativly sure they are using 5400RPM or slower drives. Also, not all 2.5" laptop drives worked with the PS3-FAT, as some of the drives were a bit too tall. I image the slimline has the same issue, possibly worse.

As for the people with 1TB or more, they are using ESATA adapters to connect external drive(s) to the system. The limit for such a hard drive is at least 2TB...maybe more (I posted on this a while back, but got no answers).
