Hi, recently ive been having some trouble trying to get my ps3 to work properly with my Viewsonic VA903b monitor.
I bought a PS3/Wii VGA HDTV AV Cable specifically to make my PS3 play on the monitor but I'm still having trouble. The setting up of these cables is NO fun.Yeah have to setup so you can setup, it's ridiculous and frustrating but i got it to work. After I was actually pleasantly surprised to see my ol' monitor displaying a decent 720p.
So basically I have my PS3 VGA cable going from my PS3 into a regular Male/Male VGA cable and than into my monitor. ( I'm using the extra Male VGA because the PS3 VGA is female and my monitor only accepts a male VGA)
The setup is working fine now that I made misc adjustments between my monitor and PS3 but Im experiencing periodic blinks (the picture just drops for 2 secs) every couple minutes. This is ESPECIALLY annoying because I play online and what not and 2 secs = death... and me yelling at my monitor.
The picture looks fine and I've checked to see all connections are secure so I have no idea why it blinks.
ANY FIXES, SUGGESTIONS, INSIGHT, QUESTIONS, or smack talk is appreciated :)
I have Video Output set to Component/D Terminal because thats where the cable plugs into and its set to 720p because thats what my monitor maxes out at. If I try anything higher my monitor lets me know that the input is "out of range".
I actually didn't check to see if the cables were dirty when I received them. I just cleaned them and put everything back together and I'm still getting that DEVIOUS wink from my monitor.
This has me stumped, my monitor works perfectly fine with my Xbox 360's VGA cable. Im guessing this problem might have something to do with the cable.
I was going to suggest getting an HDMI cable next, but you already beat me to it, it seems. All the HD you want in a single cable, instead of that... odd...
...thing.
Does that HDTV AV Cable of yours plug into the PS3's HDMI port, by any chance? Or does it go into the Component/Composite port? I've seen those here and there, but I've never bothered to scrutinize them.
But yeah. One cable + adapter > cable + add-ons + loose ends + adapter.
So the HDMI to VGA cable would work? I only assumed it would but have been reading that the single HDMI to VGA cable will not work. It looks feasible to me...
The VGA HDTV AV Cable thingy ma jig contraption doesn't plug into my PS3's HDMI. It connects where the typical rca component would. I wouldn't wish one of those things upon my worst enemy haha yeah, the cable it that great.
Do you happen to have experience in connecting a PS3 to a monitor? I just wana know what my sure shot option would be...
The monitor I have has an HDMI-in port, so I just use an HDMI cable. But even if you need an adapter, it's a simple one-line adapter. (I'm getting one so that I can play my PS3 on my brother's computer downstairs, which only has VGA/DVI, in the off-chance that I have to move my PS3 for family functions.)
The only issue I really foresee is figuring how you want to do the audio output, since neither DVI nor VGA can do audio. If you're using headphones or stereo ports (or if your monitor has a line-in port), it's simple enough to connect the RCA's audio cables to a 3.5/2.5mm headphone adapter.
Unfortunately, no. HDMI signals from the PS3 are, I believe, HDCP-protected (it's a security measure for most HDMI systems so that game video can't be copied without special software), and besides that, I don't think there's any simple solution to splitting the video/audio streams.
So yeah, the RCA-to-headphones/speakers thing is your best bet right now. Unless you want to go surround sound and use an optical cable, but... yeah.
