I ask b/c I can get a game which is "Region 2 Only."
I remember PS2 had different regions which meant different plugs for the console and game content which works only for its region in the world like Japan, AUS, US, and EUR.
The PS3 is not region locked, but it does know which region it came from. Most games are also region free.
Some games are region, locked, however, which is usually at the discretion of the game publisher.
You will usually find that when you play on line with a game and PS3 from different regions, you will connect to the servers of the GAMES country of origin, which can lead to "laggy" online play.
In answer to your question, region codes are below:
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played
in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
