Do any of you know if there have been any new updates on the USBADvance thing for the PS3? Y'know, the thing that works with Swap Magic to allow you to play PS2 games off your hard drive.
I remember way back when that a version 0.2b had come out, but has Ifcaro done anything else recently? Created a more stable version, perhaps? Allowed USB 2.0 support?
I've been going through my old PS2 games, and I've been itching to play Another Century's Episode (Japanese game) again.
Thanks all.

PS2 mode on the PS3 cannot support USB 2.0 because the PS2 never supported it. USB Advance lags horribly. If you are comfortable with a soldering iron and basic electronics, I would recommend the swap switch. I had it on my original 60 gig and it worked well, but it will void your warranty, but most people that have a BC unit no longer have a warranty.

Oh, joy. Guess I'll have to practice my soldering again before I muck this job up, then...
Was hoping I wouldn't have to go about it that way. I'd been avoiding Swap Switch like the plague just because of my inferior skills.

True, I could, but that would also involve more cables and space consuming and getting more things to "mod" the PS2 and just in general spending more money (or so I would assume) than I would with USBAdvance or the Swap Switch.
But that is also a very viable option.

That is true, but what happens if you make a tiny mistake and end up killing your PS3, that would be quite a bit of money wasted.
You can get a second hand slim PS2 quite cheap and Swap Magic isnt that expensive either, when your bored with the PS2 it can be put away untill you want to play it again.

You need Swap Magic or Action Replay, you need them to get the files needed onto your memeory card.

You can do it with other ways...I know that it can be done with both gameshark and USB Extreme from personal experience. Also, SKSapps has tutorials for installing exploits from about a dozen other bootdisks.
A somewhat related question:
Does anyone know if USBadvance (or some other USB HDD loader) has gotten the dual-usb software-raid-0 support yet? This would double the throughput of a USB 1.1 port, and might make the games semi-playable.

Not sure... that's an extremely interesting idea, though.
And as far as homebrew goes, Zero, I thought the latest slims have an updated BIOS which prevents homebrew. Swap Magic would be the best bet, I would think.

That is why you go to a pawn shop and buy a fat ps2 or older model slim ps2.

Well, yeah, that was the plan anyway, but y'know, if I WAS getting a new slim PS2 (ensuring that all the components actually work instead of being unsure if something's crapped out after ten years of use), Swap Magic would be the only one that'd work.
...I think.
