Why would you want to pay for an outdated firmware? Just get Kmeaw 3.55 for free.

lol yes afraid you are pretty far behind in the latest news juzi13.
Update your console to 3.55, NOT 3.56 which is the latest update.
Then download Kmeaw cfw 3.55
Install via recovery mode on your ps3, note recovery mode is different from service mode.
Install the latest backup manager, I use Gaia 2.0.6
Then backup all your games to the hdd.
Just be careful if changing managers and deleting the old one, deleting a manager also deletes the games folder it uses. I did this the other day and now will spend the weekend backing them all up again :(

I am about to do exactly that. So you can choose which update to apply? It wont automatically upgrade you to 3.56?

Sorry to hijack this and not sure if I can ask this as am new to all this.
I got a ps3 break, had an old ps3 with broken blu ray, updated it to 3.41 and am using a few managers, open manager, Gaia , mm etc.
Havent had much luck getting many games to work, can I update to 3.55 as suggested in the last post and get more games to load?

afaik updating to cfw3.55 will not do you much good; since all cfw users have a working BD drive. hence why they all report that almost all games work.... so you still need BD emulation with CFW; similar as the jailbreak device did. apparently, it is the same. jailbreak and CFW gives you both the option to install pkg yourself; hence why the jailbreak devices are obsolete (unless you want to stick to ofw3.41 and are affraid to update the fw to a cfw....).
so if a game needs BD emulation to work; updating to cfw 3.55 does you no good. with a broken BD drive you still can't emulate. cfw 3.55 is needed for the games that need a fw >3.41... in your case; just try different game managers. gaia appears to be popular; there is also a list with games that work with jailbreak on internal/external; on that same list for some games it is reported that they work without a disc in the drive... just go for those games then...

I have a working blu ray on my other ps3 but was nervous to jailbreak so tried my spare one first
Would it be better to have the working one on 3.41 or Cfw 3.55 from a working games point of view
I want to rip all my games to external hard drive

apparently you cannot downgrade from 3.55; so if you are at 3.55 you are stuck there. on the other hand you can downgrade from 3.50 (using a jailbreak device etc.). what exactly would be the purpose of that beats me, but it can be done.
my thoughts (i myself only have a non-working ps3 fw 3.10... - laser died - ..)
so i would suggest, since you have a working and non-working ps3, to keep the working ps3 as it is (regardless of the firmware). assuming that the nonworking ps3 has a fw below 3.42; i would suggest just flashing a custom 3.41 fw onto that, and see which games actually run without a disc in it.
with a working laser + cfw 3.55 (kmea) almost all games just work fine with gaia or multiman or.... you name it, so that combination always works. if you go to cfw3.55 straight away, you never can go back to anything below (assuming you want to).
with cfw 3.41 (hermes) + multiman (uses the hermes payload) you can see and try which games work of the hdd without a disc. if that doesn't do the trick for you, you can always reflash back to ofw 3.41 or and upgrade to a higher ofw an cfw.
i myself will try the hermes cfw 3.41 + latest multiman to see how it works (- i have a broken laser; so no BD emulation possible -). this combination does not need eboot patching (anymore); only eboot patching needed if you want to play games that need a fw higher than 3.41 (like nfs, gt5). but for older games; that run on 3.41 or below; no patching needed (since the hermes payload needed for the hermes cfw is inserted as soon as you start the - hermes based - multiman (= backup manager) which deliveres the payload. whether other BM work with the Hermes CFW remains to be seen; gaia doesn't work apparantly (something to do with the payload needed by hermes cfw...??).
you do need to get the gamedata onto a internal/external harddisk off course which can be difficult if your laser has died.....
with kmeah cfw 3.55 there is a wider range of BM possible (GAIA etc.); is has to do something with the way the payload is delivered in the kemah cfw that can actually run all BM...... this is a little bit unclear to me why hermes fw needs a hermes based BM to work properly, whereas the kmeah fw 3.55 can run anything [if someone can explain this to me; you are welcome]

On 3.55 some managers have stopped supporting discless booting. This is because a few games wont run without a disc and other are more stable with a disc in there.
So you can update to 3.55 but use a maanger that allows discless booting. Most games should run in discless mode, but the more popular games may not, eg GTA4 on 1.06 update, MW2,

a winning combination is hermes cfw 3.41 + multiman + blackb0x ftp server (filezilla doesn't work; flashfxp does... but the last one is not freeware unfortunately; hopefully filezilla will work in the future). playing ninja gaiden sigma and prince of persia trilogy once again on my ps3....

Well, I updated my working ps3,backed up my games and only half of them working
Cod black ops not working, f1 2010 etc
Used kmeaw 3.55cfw and both multiman (latest one) and Gaia , only 50% success rate of my games backed up so far
