Hi guys

I have just received my PS3Yes today. Having installed Flip and relavent drivers I flashed USB with a file at90usb162.hex as instructed. Now when I plug the dongle into my PC or PS3 im getting the red light and nothing else seems to be happening. When I tried going back into Flip now im getting the message "could not open USB port".......any ideas? any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Which operating system are you using?. Also starting off using these dongle is a bit tedious, probably the same with other clones as well.

Windows XP

Install FLIP.
Connect ps3yes dongle, red light will be on
Wait around 20 seconds red and blue light will both be on.

Goto Device Manager and find the dongle in the list if you can. This is the hard part, finding it in the list, if you are lucky there maybe it'll be listed right at the top as atmel device, or maybe libusb, you are looking for something that says AT90USB162
If you are even luckier a pop up will appear to say system has detected a new device and ask you to install driver.
If you cant find it, it could be in the USB controller list, but finding it there is a pain.

When you find it, right click and click properties, then update driver. Then tell it to search for the driver in the usb folder for FLIP. This is usually c:/program files/atmel/usb

Next start FLIP, then click the chip icon in top left and then find AT90USB162 in list. click OK
Then click file, load hex file, then load the latest hex you have.
Then click the icon next to the chip, the one that look like the usb cable.
Then click open.
Now the rest of the FLIP window will be active, i.e. not grayed out.
FInally do not change anything and click Run.
When it says Verify pass in teh bottom left corner you are done.

If you click teh usb icon and then open and you get an error message then copy libusb0.dll and libusb0_x64.dll from the usb folder into the bin folder then try again

If you are on windows 7 64 bit, you need to download drivers that are signed for it, the drivers gven do not work on win7 64bit systems

Then to use it on PS3, if you have a slim unplug the power cable then plug in again. For phats switch it off from teh back then on again.
Plug in dongle then press power and then eject right after. If dongle light is still red when ps3 logo appears you were not fast enough or didnt unplug the power cable. Try again and press power then eject immediately after.
The dongle light should go blue first then the ps3 logo appears on screen.

Thanks for this but this is what I have already done but to no avail. I have a slim PS3 and Win 7 x86.

I managed to get Flip on (at which stage the dongle was blue and red lights together) I flashed with the hex file and its been a red light ever since. I have tried numerous times on my PS3 and have tried to reflash but now its saying that it cant open USB port...im tearing my hair out - i had alreadsy waited nearly 3 weeks for this to be delivered :(

Any further advice would be great.... ive read somewhere about a hard upgrade but not too sure what this involves or what I would gain by doing this

Also bigo93, what is the difference between the manager.pkg and the openmanager.pkg files available for download on the ps3yes website?

Thanks

manager.pkg is the originla backup manager that psjailbreak.com released.

This version was purposely flawed, it had code in it so that the ps3 would check that the dongle was always in, removing the dongle would therefore bring up an error message. The psgroove team removed this code so now after you start your backed up game you can remove the dongle from the ps3.

When you flash the dongle did you use the hex files provided by p3syes.com? Cos f you used any other then, as it says on their website, you will have to hard upgrade it. This basically involves shorting 2 connections witha wire or screwdriver or anything metal.

Ps3yes are currently making a document on how to do this. There is some info on this site, its in chinese so you'll have to translate using google or just look at the photos
http://bbs.a9vg.com/read.php?tid=1569790...d=1&uid=&page=1

So to get it back into upgrade mode, use a precision screwdriver to connect the 2 points shown in the photo towards the end of the tutorial on that page, plug the usb into your pc then remove the screwdriver.

Yeah google translate isnt the best of translations, but I think it means you connect the 2 connections pointed out by the 2 red dots then plug it into the pc. So you want to use a straight head screwdriver, but not too large to short other components.

Like I said ps3yes say they are making a document regarding how to do this properly, so its either wait until they do (probably by end of the week) so try the above out, but even im not sure if the above works or wont cause problems.

If you want you can email ps3yes and ask them directly to make sure those are the 2 points. I;ve emailed them several times and they reply teh next day.

Think I have realised the problem....the firmware on my PS3 is 3.50 and the PS3Yes requires 3.41

Arghh have spent all night on this, is there a way to downgrade or will I have to wait to see if there is an update for PS3Yes to play on 3.50?

argh! Yeah, as some would say, you're screwed. This exploit only works on firmware 3.41 and below atm. Rumours going around that psjailbreak.com are working on a version 2 of their dongle (note that they havent sold any yet even though they made this exploit :P )

But with 3.50 $ony blocked unlicensed usb devies, so dont know if they will be able to or not. SO not only do you have to wait and see if this happens, if it does you will then have to wait for other hackers to decrypt the coding. This was easy on the first dongle, they just extracted it, but with the amount of money psjailbrek lost from all these clones surfacing and selling before even they could sell theirs, they will most likely be spending a lot on preventing the same from happening again.

SO this leaves you with a couple of options.
1) Wait for the above
2) Buy the v2 dongle which they will sell at at least $100
3) Sell your ps3 and buy a new one/second hand with 3.41 or below on it.
4) Buy a new ps3

Now I know 3 & 4 seem the same but their not. My advice is if you can afford it buy a new ps3 which should have 3.40 or below on them, use this as your jailbroken console, and then use your current one as an official console that you can go online with.
If you cant afford a new console, but can afford to spend around $100, then sell your current one and buy a new one. Could even be a second hand one, but it will look dodgy when you walk into a pawnbrokers and ask for a ps3 with a specific firmware on it.

big093 I know I keep straying from the main topic, but your one of the few people who have a ps3yes or seem to be discussing it anyways.

So with the ps3yes site, I know you have to use their version of psgroove, or you have to do a hard update. But what about the other files there? Like openmanger and such, are these simply re hosted there from other sites, or are these version specifically tied to ps3yes as well. I would think not, but thought I would ask.

I take it that once I get ps3yes plugged in my ps3, i can find and install anything (homebrew apps, the ftp app, any version of backup manager)that I want. These are simply re hosted at ps3yes site for convenience, right?

Yeah all the manager downloads are just the same as all the others on different sites, they have just rehosted it so you can grab everything from one page.

The only thing specific to the ps3yes are the hex files, these are modified psgroove hexes which allow the ps3yes to enter auto upgrade. IF you do install a non-ps3yes hex then you lose the auto upgrade function and then do the hard upgrade, which mean opening the dongle and shorting 2 connections before inserting it into your pc.

I have 3.15 and loaded the hex provided on ps3 site. It goes red first and the blue/red and never goes blue. The ps3 won't boot either unless I remove the ps3yes! dongle.

Any help is appreciated.
