Ok so I am about to buy a ps3break so I can run backups from my external. The question I got is about updating. So you can not get online at all unless u update? and if u do update the ps3 break will not work? Is there a better solution to run backups and still be able to update when there is one?

First of all you not read any of the posts I made or even read on other forums?!
Be careful of PS3Break, they are shipping with non-upgradable chips. So you might not be able to flash new psgroove hex files onto it easily.
If you "jailbreak" your PS3 then its recommended you not go online with it as sony will eventually start banning those consoles. So atm its either homebrew or online, so no there isnt a better option as this is currently the only option.
I;m sure ppl are working on being able to get both. though sony are also working on stopping us, psn is supposed to go offline for the entire day this week sometime.

I have read around its just so much crap and cant seem to get a simple answer. Which chip would u recommend that i will not have to buy another of in the future.. I dont rlly plan on playin games online, I was moring thinkin like the web browser and stuff but I know some games require updates and crap like that.. If you could just tell me of a better chip to buy or a better way to play from my external it would be appriciated.

True with so many clones its hard to tell, even the original company, psjailbreak which made the first dongle has suddenly disappeared; their website has gone down. and not sure how many units they have shipped if they have shipped any at all.
I was intending to wait for a new supply of teensy or atmel usb dev boards but cant wait, so I have ordered a ps3yes from lightake.com as another member mentioned in another thread. Use the code prowinner to get a discount from them
So im gonna chance it on a ps3yes, but if you dont want to do the same its then best to back order a teensy or atmel usb board direct from the manufacturers

Best get the ++ board as it'll have more features which may come in handy
for atmel you want to look for a AT90USBKEY I think most used this site: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSear...art=AT90USBKEY2
So for teensy or atmel order now but who knows when you might actually get it, could be a month or more.

I would recommend PS3Yes which is ATMEL currently .
ATMEL chips are very hard to find, and lead-time is up to 5 weeks.
Once they are out stock, and they have a market to supply, I would not be surprized if they too switch over the PIC chip.

well I googled the ps3yes and found the site http://www.ps3yes.com/English/ and I had to email them about it. Said it would be 35usd to buy it and they are located in china.. Says on the site that it is upgradable and that it can be flashed to psgrove hex. idk if that is the real site or what the deal is.. and whats the big deal with the psgrove hex?

I emailed them as well to ask if psgroove could be flashed, and now as stated on their site they say if you do flash psgroove onto it it disables the upgrade function, so if you need to get t into upgrade mode you'd have to short two pads, but they havent said which pads yet.
Asked them if they could upload pics or a video showing ppl how to tdo it but they havent yet. Really hope they or someone else does as the new psgroove removes the need of a bluray disc in the drive.
Still waiting on mine, if the delivery time is 7 days from lightake.com then I should get mine this weekend hopefully.
