if i back up my game to my ps3's internal hard drive is there a way of copying the game from the internal hard drive to a usb external hard drive?

You can use the FTP server to copy the game to a PC, and then onto the external drive.

You can plug the external directly onto the USB port of the PS3 and use the file manager by Comgenie?s to transfer everything over. To me it's alot faster than FTP'ing. If you've been around during the PS2 hacking and homebrewing scene, the file manager should be no problem to understand and use at all. It's really straight forward and works just like uLaunch for the PS2 (minus the launching of ELF's).

If you choose to FTP, make sure you FTP it directly into the external HDD (which will further limited the transfer speed). Otherwise it'll transfer to your PC's internal, which you will then have to transfer into your external HDD and depending on the size, it may or may not completely transfer over (FAT/32 are limited to 4GB per file max). Numerous PS3 games have a single file that exceeds 4GB. Just told I'd let you know this if you hadn't already known.
